LT4 (non-hot) cam in a 330ho crate eng.
I want to get a GM 330ho motor to replace my LO3. I want to retain a roller cam setup and I know the engine comes with a non-roller cam. I have an 97LT1 cam already I was thinking about installing but that would require an externally plumbed EGR since this motor has vortec heads. I have seen several different sources say that the production LT4 cam has enough overlap that it basically performed a self EGR function, and there are no external EGR requirements on these engines. Would it stand to reason that this would also be the case if I installed the LT4 cam in the 330ho? I know I will probably not see 330hp with either of these cams but would I be sacrificing any extra hp going with the LT4 since the lift#'s on the 97 LT1 cam are actually higher w/ 1.6 rockers than the LT4 with the required 1.6 rockers? There is 2* more duration on both int and ex side of the LT4 cam, would this make up for the minimal lift difference from the LT1? The only reason I'm worried about EGR is of course emissions, I have a dyno sniffer test every year, but no visual other than to make sure I have a cat. Thanks guys.
