1987 IROC 350 vs 93 40th Annv Vette
Well my friend who I work with finally took out his vette for the summer. I know he'll whoop me in my IROC the way it is right now but I'm wondering how bad will he beat me. My IROC right now is definitly not running a 13.8@104 anymore since I brought it almost back to stock when I was going to sell it. Right now all it has is edelbrock TES headers, edelbrock RPM catback, hypertech chip, hotwired fan switch,K&n's with gutted air boxes, and 3.42 gears in the rear end and it's running much better than it ever has. I figure with these mods I should run atleast a low 14 considering the previous owner got it to a 14.2 with just K&n's. BTW my car has 59k miles and his vette has 27k miles and it's a bone stock LT1 down to the original air filter with 300 HP I believe and it's also a convertible. I'm sure his vette should be good for a mid to high 13. But I wanted to see how bad you guys think he'll beat me the way I am now. He's an arrogant little bastard and i'd love to atleast suprise him in the IROC which he thinks is a POS.

Good to see you kept the car.
You obviously aren't gonna win here, but IMO you will for a while but then he will pull away.

LT1 Vettes are quick. most of the guys on the Vette forum go low 13s with stock ones. ive even seen a timeslip showing a 12.9, stock! most people arent this good at driving them, however. ive seen old dudes go low 14s in LT1 Vettes at the track (pathetic). because it is a vert, id say low 14s to high 13s.

I've seen some LT1 vettes pull some low 13's stock with a 6 speed. But I also saw an older guy run a 15.6 last wednesday at the track in an LT1 hardtop 6 speed vette(i shook my head at that one). My friend's vette is an auto lucky for him since he can't drive a standard and he leaves his traction control on when he races. Which I think would hurt him if anything wouldn't it? That would cut power to the engine through to DIS to stop him from spinning the tires I think. I've been in his car and it definitly is fast but it does not have the torque that my IROC has and I think I should be able to take him atleast up until a certain point. I raced him last year with just a catback exhaust and two fried spark plug wires and i still stayed with him up until the middle of second gear. Well once I get the pig back on the road i'll find out. Hopefully that'll be sometime next week and i'll post results.

A buddy of mine works at an exotic car shop here and we went for a ride in a 40th ann. a few months ago.It was an auto and felt like it was geared for the salt flats,if his is geared like that you might have a chance in a short race.

i would think that with the traction control engaged it would hurt performance. your friend just has to learn how to launch without spinning. the standard gear ratios on Vettes were 2.59s, 3.07s were optional on auto cars, and manuals came with 3.42s i think (it may be 3.45s, i cant remember). even though 2.59s are low, my Vette still spins the tires with ease, but i think theyre to low for the higher reving LT1 cars
