The Integra Question
The Integra Question
Alright, Got a problem This kid with a 95 GSR (stock they have 170hp) wants to race me on the highway. This is the only way I can shut him up. I never really liked racing on the highway. But my question comes down to will he eat me? How fast do they get going on the highway. I have a 350 with Edelbrock Intake Manifold, headers all aftermarket exahust bigger carb, all smog ripped off and a cam that the previous guy put in. I also have a work over Th-350. I have 3.08 rear gears. Please let me know what you think. I need the honest to *** truth. He ran a 14.7-14.9 at the track but for some reason I think he is bsing. All he has done is Intake Headers and exhuast and his intake is a crappy aluminum one.

What's the specs on the cam, how about head work? How are you guessing that much HP? But if you think you have that much, I'd say you got him.
I am guessing the horsepower on my car, and the cam specs are somewhere are 480 lift. It has a real rough loppy ideal. The heads on the other hand, I have no idea if they are ported or not. I was just guessing 300hp cause I know the standard GM crate engine has round 250hp and I thought a cam intake, bigger carb, no emissions, heades, exhaust were good for around 50hp give or take. I was just worried about racing this kid cause of the VTEC things. I heard they really open up at high RPM's.

Vtec may open up @ high RPM (5800 I think) but that doesn't give the car more power than it is rated. The 170 Hp probably peaks after Vtec has engaged... I would even give it a shot in my car LOL. I don't think he has a prayer if you're pushing 300 Hp... you should put several lengths on him.
What kind of highway racing is this. If it's just a speed contest then you have him. His car doesn't have the torque to push that much air. You should finish up around the 140 mph range, which his car couldn't reach falling off a cliff. My car shifts into OD @ 130 w/ the 3.27s. Before I had this car I had a 2.73 rear with an old tired spread bore on my engine and it would pull 'er up there.

If it's a top speed run...good luck
If it's a 1/4 mile or something you'll take him no problem because don't forget you dont' have OD to fall back on.

He wants to race 40-100mph not top speed?? He is kinda dumb what is up with that? I mean top speed makes sense and 1/4 mile makes sense. But what is up with 40-100mph? By the way I do not have overdrive I have a th350.

ohh assuming that u have tire diameter of 26 inches ur TH350 with 3.08 rear end
in final gear doing 4000 RPMS ull be going 100mph
140mph in ur car is 5500rpms...(does ur v8 even make power there....)
u cant beat the top end of that car ..(if it doesnt have a limiter)....
like inwo said 1/4 mile ull beat him for sure ..but top speed ..i dont think so...

Ok well there is a video that came out a few years ago called 808 Speed. I dont think they sell it online (its a video made in Hawaii) but if you ever have a chance to watch it, check out the part where they mounted a cam on the bike and went on the freeway. Basically they mounted a cam on the gastank of a Yamaha R1 giving the camera a view of the tach and speedo (digital) on the bottom and a view of the road in front of the bike.
So the bike guy is driving on the H1 freeway (yeah we only have 3 freeways in Hawaii hahah) and comes up to a group of imports. He weaves through them trying to bait someone into taking off. Well a yellow Integre GSR takes the bite and downs it. You can see the speeds they are reaching on the bike (i'm sure he could have smoked the GSR easily but he was just following for the video) and yes they hit 140 MPH and yes it was very fast. Remember that these cars you guys are talking about are geared and built more towards high speed races. Off the line you will beat them but like I've said in other posts a race from 40-100 is alot different from 0-80 (witch is a normal domestic race) and MIGHT have a different outcome.
I'd say you'd smoke him easily if you had a 5 or a 6 speed (able to choose the best gear to get into your powerband for that speed) but with an auto you might be dumped into a crappy part of your powerband and he might pull ahead. It has happened to me with my 700r4.

also, just to rub some more salt into my wounds, one time I lined up against a 96 GSR with all the mods except NOS or forced induction, and he was able to keep up with my pitifully slow 5.0 tbi. Not saying that GSR's are fast off the line but when modded they can easily hang with our baseline v8's. He chirped 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, and we were neck and neck but had to let off because a stoplight was comming up fast. just that fact that he kept up motor vs motor gave me more respect for imports. in a high speed race I would have been toast. But thats me... you got a 350 so who knows?

Ok, to those saying that the Integra will never see 140 I call
My friends Civic EX'es (for those of you that don't know, EX's make around 130hp, I think it was 127 or something... not sure, can't remember exactly, oddball number. SOHC, not DOHC, and VTEC on an EX only works on the intake, not exhaust) can all see 135 easily, and they keep pulling too, we just don't have anyplace long enough here to get higher than that. That's 2 '95 EX's and a '99 EX, all 5-speeds. An Integra GS-R(DOHC, VTEC effective on intake and exhaust) should see 140 easily.

My best friend has a 95 GSR with an AEM cold air intake, 2 1/2 cat back system and a short throw shifter. Ya its got the mandatory 17's and a big *** wing. He can hang off the line but it doesnt take long till i see him in the rear veiw.

Going fast doesn't really count if you need 5 miles to do it. I could just pound my car until it hit 160 or 170, but that's stupid. Also 135 mph in a 130 hp car is absolute BS
I have driven an EX exactly like that. It was a 5spd and I was afraid to merge onto the interstate. 80-90 mph took about 20 secs 90-100 took about a min. With a pos carb and 2.73 gears I could hit 130 in less than a mile. His top end will **** out. Everyone on the planet knows that 4 bangers have no top end. Why is everyone saying different now? My brothers poor IROC with a tow truck 350 in it and 3.42 gears would pull past 5000 in third with the quadra junk carb on it.

My mom's 5 spd Civic HB can't do more than 85 up a slight incline... it's got 106 Hp and it weighs 2400 lbs... I bet it couldn't do more than 105 on a completely flat surface...
Why are you guys comparing 130hp and 106hp engines to GSR's? the older models started at 160hp, the newer models are 180hp and the type r is 195 hp (all stock). domestic 4 bangers might not have a top end but japanese 4 bangers do have top end. in fact they are built and geared for top end.

Between our cars' live axels, and weird weight distribution, I don't think 130 mph is a particularly good idea in an f-body. However, the integra feels VERY controlled at such speeds and can weave in and out of traffic (would hate to see somebody weave sideways into another car though). So I'd stay away from highway stuff.
Defintaely drag him, and if you are pulling 300 horsepower as you say, you'll have no trouble. Don't lose heart if he keeps up with you from a launch though, his first gear is going to be something fierce, and it goes on forever because of that ridiculous redline. However once it ends you should pull away from him (you'll be just getting into power in second).
Just my thoughts on the matter.

ur dreaming
and henryC a Fbody is definitely more stable at higher speeds than a Acura Integra..just because of the suspension.(swaybars stuff) unless the Fbody has a totally worn out suspension ..that speed is posssible....
(have u ever seen the swaybar size in those integras/hondas?)
i would say it would could go either way cuz a gsr at highway speeds would only be in 3rd gear where as u would be in 3rd then it'll kick down to second. have u ever ran ur car at the track?if ur running alot lower times then u don't have to worry so much but if ur times r only a couple of tenths faster then him watch out. speakin from pass experiences i would suggest that u race him from a dead stop

I'm guessing if you were going to be doing a highway race from Westford you'd be doing it on route 3 or 495, in which case don't even bother because since they started construction on rt. 3 there are Staties all over the place and there always have been on 495. I have been lasered quite a few times day and night on rt. 3 and they also have cameras on 495. Check out the signs that say "Stay Awake For Safety's Sake". Just thought I would give you a heads up. Feel free to IM me sometime. I'm interested in checking out that car.
I talked to the kid today. Saying I would race him from a dead stop. Well he doesn't want to race from a dead stop! He knows I will take him that way. So I don't even know if this race is gonna happen now. What a tool. Talking all this trash about his car running 14.9 and being lighting fast and now he won't race.......man some of these ricers really get on my nerves.

And some of these people on this board that don't know about imports get on my nerves. Not naming any names, just sayin.... good luck with your race if it ever happens...
just race him from a roll then ... find the speed you are @ going 3500 rpm in 2nd .... tell him u want to race from a roll @ that speed ... line up @ that speed in 3rd and when the kid wants to go downshift to 2nd and pull away. if you do end up loosing (unlikely) then just take it as a lesson, learn his mods so you can be aware on the street next time and save up for some more mods yourself.
