im just wondering who would win: '89 IROC w/ a 350 vs. a '94 or '95 z28 w/ a 350, (either a 5-speed or an auto)? and no mods for either cars.

Even if it was a 92 Z28 L98 VS a 94 or 95 the 4rth gen would win. They have a 40 horse advantage.

All things being equal the LT1. But give the LT1 a horrible driver and the L98 a good one, and I'd say the L98 maybe.

there are some people here with times in the 13s with just bolt ons to a 350 L98 it can be done easy.
if i am not mistaken old LT1s ran high 13s??? or is it low 14s???

my 95 Z A4 went 14.0@99 with a 2.2 60'. If I could have got some damn traction I would have had a 13 second timeslip. manual cars are usually good for a high 13 and autos with okdrivers can get low 14's.

less than $600 into my L98, and i think the results speak for themselves. of course my TPI motor is in a Vette, and i have an advantage like bigger tires (traction), aluminum heads (higher compression), and lighter weight. a L98s biggest restriction is the exhaust, followed by the intake manifold. change those 2 things and drop in a converter and you will be showing LS1s your tailights

i would say the lt1....even though the l98 makes more torque 345 ot 335 the lti's peak is at 2400 with the l98;s peak at 3200 so the lt1 would reve a little faster and hit its torque peak sooner then the l98 and u couldnt get an l98 with a stick so its at a disadvantage from the getgo......although my 305tpi 5 speed nips right at the heels of lt1s....i lost about a carlength to 100 mph...so maybe if the l98 had a converter it may be damn close

The L98 will win most of the way but the LT1 will edge it out after a while. They are close in performance.

I know this sounds crazy, but I once raced a kid in a 95 Z28 auto for at least 15 mi. (from rt.80-rt.19-pkwy south-rt.3-you NJ-NY guys know where Im talking about). My car is fairly modded(nothing internal) and his car was basically stock. That was the toughest race I ever had...I pulled on him only slightly and never let him get past me but man was he on my ***! We were going over 110 at some points.

When I got to my house, he followed me just to see what I had. I love the "thats a 305?!" look!

Stock for stock I would say the Lt1 would probably win since it is capable of running high 13s. But it depends on the car. Some Lt1s run low 14s stock and so do some L98s. So it would be very close. Last time I ran on just engine(I usaually spray) I ran a 14flat@98mph spinning a little with a 60' of 2.1. I've gotten 1.9s before so I know I can get a high 13. My car still has the stock intake manifold, gears, and original 160,000 engine. But of course my car has a few bolt ons.

L98's have the 1/8 mile advantage, just from experience. The LT1's start pulling at the end though. I agree with that if the manifold and exhaust are changed that makes a HUGE difference. 1/4 mile the LT1 takes command unless the L98 can breathe.
