2.8 camaro VS 3.8 Buick
A friend of mine drives an 86 camaro with the 2.8 and it's an auto. Anyways, my other friend drives an 83 Buick Regal, with a 3.8 (NOT A TURBO).
The guy with the Buick wants to race, he thinks on account of his extra 1.0L of displacement he will smoke the camaro. I'm not so sure.
Does anyone know what kind of power the N/A 3.8 makes. Who should win? (I know it will be a slow race, but It'll be funny)
Thanks for any info! :lala:

Bizarre how in '83, a 2.8 made 112 hp, 130 if HO...and the 3.8 only had 110 hp. And the 4.2 had 125...
Yes, sadly the Buick should not be very fast at all. Could be a cool car though.

My first car was an 83 Cutlass supreme 3.8l man was it slow. I got beat bad by a completely stock non vtech 4door civic. On a brighter note, it had the most comfortable seats(and largest back seat
) of any car I have ever been in.
) of any car I have ever been in. My cousin had a 1983 Buick Regal 3.8, non-turbo and a 1984 Firebird S/E 2.8. At the same time. Although we never raced them (he didn't have his liscense yet) I would say the Bird pulled harder. The Regal was just too much of a family car. The 2.8 should win!
I don't know about the torque of the Camaro, but the Regal has 190 ft/lbs. It doesn't matter though. Those cars are SO SLOW. My friend has one and the rev limiter kicks in at 75mph. I don't know if all Regals had this, but it takes long enough to get there! Camaro hands down.

Those Buicks aren't quick at all. Although my friends later 80s La Saber is quick as hell. It was an ex-undercover cop car and that thing can fly.

No rev limiter needed on the old 2bbl. 3.8, as they have no top end anyway.
110 hp@3800 rpm
190 ft.lbs.@1600 rpm
Just enough to get the car in motion, but that's about it.

The 3.8 powered Cutlass & Regal are good for about high 17's - low 18's in the 1/4 mile. 2.8 3rd gens are much quicker than that. My old '83 3.8 Cutlass couldn't get out of it's own way!
