will it be close???
I own a 1976 Camaro. It has a freshly rebuilt 355 making close to 300 HP. It is backed by a th350 with a shift kit, 3.90 gears and a posi unit. I have traction bars as well. will I be able to beat a 1990 IROC-Z? It is an L-98 automatic, G-92, all the 1LE options except it has AC and decals.who wil win? Will it be close? Thanks.
Ian, (sigh). You know Curt will not like this. His car should be good for mid 14's with only 67k miles. As for your car, i don't know. It's quick as hell spinning into all three gears. Are we talking 1/4 mile or street race? From a stop i give the '76(the torque monster) the win, but anywhere above 25mph and it gets close. If you stop before 100 you should be good. After that...

Look at it this way:
1/4 mile: '76
0-75: '76
0-100:close
25-75: close
any higher starting speeds and it's all 1LE.
Basically Ian, if you want to win, go from a stop and end the race pretty quick. Stoplight to stoplight it's all 2nd gen. That would be what i consider a true street race. :hail: to low end torque!

I wouldn't count out the L98 for torque. The L98 produces PLENTY of torque and the 3rd gen is lighter. I say the race will be close. If you are really pushing 300 hp in a 2nd gen, you should win but not by much at all. The 1LE Iroc is supposedly a little lighter than another iroc so it should weigh a couple hundred less then the 2nd gen. I'd say, if he gets traction, he wins. If you get traction, you win!

think of it as power to weight then. 300hp and 3700lbs. vs. 240hp and 3400lbs? If those are the right numers, i think the '76 can makeup for 300 more lbs with 60 more horses.
