02' Ss

Do you guys think I have a chance against a 02' SS that is stock except for exhaust. I want to send this guy home crying b/c he is such a cocky a-hole since his mommy and daddy bought him this car. Mods in sig.

Are you racing from a roll or at a stop? and is the SS a 6 speed or an auto?

Sorry dude but this sounds pretty bad for you, I have a magazine article sitting right next to me that says 0-60 in 4.8 for the SS and 1/4 in 12.9

I think it'll be a pretty good race especially if you have a decent gear. If it's a 2.73 or 3.08 he'll prolly get ya

Good Luck Anyway

It'll be a good race till he hits 3rd gear where I think he'll pull away some. Definatly race him from a stop though.

i think you own him, your 3000 stall is gonna send you off the line well and he is nowhere near 12.9 . those are professional drivers getting those times, he is probably more like 13.3-13.6 range and i think you are right down in there. good luck, my money is on you from a stop.

Yep, as long as you get traction.

This might be a case of fast car - slow driver. I know the SS has the potential to run 12.9's, BUT that was with a good driver. Cocky young kids tend to suck at driving. I've seen plenty of 6-spd SS's and WS6's running 13.5's to 14.5's at the track. I've even had a few races where they ran 14.5 or slower.

Ricers don't drive stock cars, they drive "tweaked out" cars or whatever they're calling it now. Just a bunch of econo-box honda-carts with wings and 1.5" exhaust opening up to a 5" coffee can under the bumper.

I've seen Vipers listed in mags anywhere from 12.05 to 12.2 @ 118 MPH. Although my friend saw one at the track run 12.40 @ 116, depends on the driver, I hear they are hard to drive.

914mula, if your heads flow pretty good and you have some tuning done, you should easily be running 12's with decent traction. Those heads might be slowing you down though, depending on how well they were ported. I would guess that the LS1 would run low 13's. I saw an LS1 Camaro at the track Friday run 12.8, but he had a new intake lid, exhaust, and a few other mods. I saw a stock WS-6 w/ LS1 run 13.3-13.4's

Auto ss's do not run 12.9 ***, get over the fact that only a few ls1s can run 12s, and mostly are 6 speeds. my friend has an 00 ss with auto, catback, and runs 13.5s @ 101mph. id give you the edge but u still have tpi, tpi wont hold in any upper rpms compared to the ss. get the holley stealth ram and id pick you.

ps magazine articles are usually driven by experienced drivers. in the heat of the moment with an 18 year old driver hes gonna wanna stomp on the pedal, u gotta be patient, feather it out, and even if the car is ahead of you in first by a length, trust your 2nd gear will get him...not 1st and stomp.

Yeah, I like the fact that most believe an SS can run a 12.9 no problem, yet when I said an '02 6spd Vette could run 12s they were like no.

who said an 02 vette couldnt run 12's??? Z06 is like a tenth slower than the old vipers (low-mid 12's).

I saw a 405 HP ZO6 at the track Friday. His best run was 12.51 @ 111.9 MPH, he ran this exact time twice. He looked like he was driving it well too.

Wait, I thought his sig said he already has the Stealth Ram and a 230/236 cam?! If he does and his heads flow well, he should be deep in the 12's with traction.

dont get me wrong...ls1s are great engines, but everyone places them at the top of the ladder...they are very quick but nowhere near unbeatable, 12s is just the beginning, i can name quite a few cars around my neighborhoods w/o ls1s that run mid to low 12s.

what are you guys talking about!!!

I think this guys motor sounds mean!!!!!

You're gonna rip him a new A-hole!!!

I'm guessing that the new heads gave you a nice jump in comp. ratio cause of the 58cc chambers, and you're cam is a good grind, you should be seeing some serious horsepower out of your motor. I highly doubt that this kid can pull a 12.9 out of this car, no way, not in a street race either. I do hope you have a decent rear in the car though, if you have 3.23's or lower, he's dead meat.

Hate to sound repetitious, but it will be a driver's race. I would assume that you know your car and it's mods well enough to launch it in a manner that will produce the fastest time possible. The '02 SS times published in the auto rags are again, made by professional drivers who do nothing but wring top performance out of all manner of cars. Also, those times in the SS are made by defeating the traction control, and from all accounts I've heard from SS owners, the car is VERY difficult to launch properly with the T/C defeated (gotta love that LS-1 ). Good luck.

You better have some meats on the rear of your car, if you do that 3000 stall will absoulutely kill him outta the hole!!!

That's what I think. It should be a mid 12 sec car vs. a mid 13 sec car, no contest. A Stealth Ram w/ 230/236 cam vs. a stock LS1? You should smoke the LS1 if you're running right and have any traction.

I don't have the best traction but it isn't terrible either. I have nitto's on the rear that are brand new. His is probably a 6 speed. I'm quite sure he can't drive it. One problem though. I spun a rod bearing last night 2 blocks away from my house. Time to rebuild again
