My friend has a 95 Bronco with a 351 and a rebuilt automatic tranny. He always talks crap about how he can beat me. It's quick for a truck, but I still think I can take him. Anyone ever raced one?

I raced one. It was an older, full-size Bronco. I had him by about 3 lenghts, and that was with a stock 305, headers, and a 4bbl carb that the secondaries do not work on. He had a custom exhaust, judging by the sound, but not sure what else.

They have horsepower and torque in abundance but weight is the issue here.
When you have a lot of torque, sometimes it seems like your vehicle is faster than what it really is.
On the other hand, they all look the same. You may see a Bronco, RamCharger, or an old Suburban and think, "Big Deal". And then find out they're carrying 460s, 440s, and 454s.

Well, a couple nights ago I kinda beat him. On our way to a cruise spot, we were both stopped at the first light on a freeway overpass. We both take off, and I start gaining on him, then he just gives up. When we both get there, he says "I didn't really wanna race, and it revved up to like 5,000 rpm, so I let off." Kinda sounds like he didn't want to get embarrassed, huh?

426 Dodge Hemi - Nice, Very Nice
429 Ford Hemi - Awesome, Amazing, Great, Cool and a lot more.
Hemi's Rule I just wish Chevy would have built one.

I never knew the ford 429 was a hemi. What years was it a hemi? Because a friend of mine has a 71 mustang with a 429 and i helped him rebuild the engine and i know for a fact it did not have hemispherical combustion chambers. Not saying your wrong, but i'm just curious.

Yes the 429 was a hemi or atleast in 69 and 70. It wasn't a true hemi like the Dodge. It was called a semi-hemi but was still classified as a hemi. Ford also had the 427 in the early 60's that could also be classified as a hemi. Here's a link for you

Stock 351's aren't really HP machines. They are put in vehicles that need low end torque to tow. A stock 351 in a bronco might hang for 0-30MPH because of the torque and low gearing but after that it's done.
Now a built 351 is a different story. Massive amounts of torque and horsepower.

My friend has the full size Eddie Bauer Bronco. It's got power but it doesn't have the speed. They are basically bricks on wheels. You will hand him his *** racing but he will beat you at tree stump pulling
