The fact that you have to ask that question, proves to me you know nothing about these cars and cars in general.

there a guy in our little town with a 3.1 Cavalier. He has an exhaust and CAI, and I'm sure he could take a plain jane 350tpi.
He's actually pretty quick. There are alot of 5.7tpi DOGS out there as well. maybe he raced a dogged motor.

There is no way a new Cav with just exhaust and CAI can run mid 14s with a 5.7

new cavailers are only 4 cyl, if the cavalier is a 3.1 V6, it is the older style.

I'd give the cav the race if and only if....

A) the L98 was running on 6 pistons
B) the third gear was out on the tranny
C) his posi was slipping
D) one or both of his rear tires were flat
E) and he had a car load of 250 pound guys and 4 12" subs in the back

That being said...I feel sorry for that poor camaro. I could take it on my bicycle.

unless the 350 was running on 5 cylinders, had bad rings, and was parked on the side of the street, there is no way he beat him

Is your friend sure it was an 88 Z-28 with a 350? Me thinks not unless it was an IROC. They didn't make any 88 Z-28's --only IROCS. Is he sure it had a 350? 305's look exactly the same. Did the guy pop the hood for him? Could have been a L03 just as easily as an L98.

Now here's my take -- ANY car could beat a 1988 Z28 as they did not exist!!!!

uh lucky to hit 16s, so that means a 350 TPI running 17s!? holy christ, are you serious??? ive seen a 350 TPI run mid 15s, i beat it with my old RS (modded), that car ran like ****, for it to run 17s EVEN 16s would require it to be running on 6 cylinders! or maybe an elevation of about 7k feet on a stock 87 TPI 350 heh, so ur putting the best case scenario and considering its a perfect world, i doubt the best running 3.1 or 2.8 ran the worst running 350, the torque factor even with 6 cylinders would probably be more, not to mention the hp of 240 compared to 160 or whatever, thats 100hp more, a FULL SECOND.

Often times I find myself thinking email and messageboard at the same time. When crap like this is posted, I go to the bottom right and attempt to delete it. Dang thing always tells me to respond.

Anything can happen on the strizzity streets, as you all know. I mean, not to go off topic, but... Last night I had the best pizza I've had in a long time. LaNova in Buffalo. Any of you ever had it? Yea, it's some of the best pizza in the nation. Heck, they even have a website where they ship it nationally! I can't imagine a pizza could taste much better. Crispy pepperoni, not TOO much sauce, not too little either, and a delicious mix of cheese. Man...I can't wait to go there again! The problem is it's rather expensive, but it is worth every penny!

okay now i figured it out.

they raced in reverse, the 350 had taller gears so it topped out fast. and then those 2.** gears in the v6 allowed for more speed.

now who ever knew that the smaller gears in back were better???
