oh well, i lost the bet... i thought some of em came single turbo. a guy at school has one, he told me he runs mid 12's, i told him i wouldn't race him...
edit: until i get the z06...

yeah from what i know the newer years of them could only come non turbo , or twin turbo..
single turbos would most likely be on the older versions, or newer versions converted to a bigger single turbo..

I was just wondering (i'm not an RX7 expert) but is the turbo on a rotary engine the same as on on a normal engine. I thought I read some where that the turbo was in something like the transmission
??? or something like that. If I could just get a reply out of RX7Speed that would answer all my problems.

Thanks, zerotosixty I didn't think that was correct but I just had that thought in the back of my head bugging the crap out of me, you know how that stuff is.

damn it you found me out

just shocked we have ANOTHER RX7 post
and to answer your question yes ALL cam with twin turbo stock
in 87 when they came out with the turbo stateside it was single only making around 182hp at 180tq
in 89 (still a second gen) they made some imporovements and upped it to 200hp and around 190tq
then in 92 no US rx7

93 they cam back with a vengance though
all twin turbo 255hp and 215tq
and only 2700lbs
oh yeah R1 package will handle just as well as the new z06 vette.... and this R1 was only made in 93 ....
I want one

but they changed things around with the second gen turbo (don´t know a whole lot about the twin turbo setup on the thirdgen) there was a twin scroll on the exhuast side so at lower rpms it would kinda be like running smaller headers.... this way it keeps the exhast gas velocity up helping to spool the turbo (faster your exhuast gas is the more energy it has when it hits the turbine) then at a high enough rpm it would open up a seond scroll section to allow for more flow and since the turbo is already spooled up your not going to get that turbo lag you would by just bolting on a big turbo.
it was mazdas way of making the best of both worlds
small turbo by allowing quick spool up
and large turbo by allowing more flow throughout the turbo system reducing boost and hp robbing pressure inside the exhuast stream.
also since the exhuast port on the rotaries allows for a really strong exhuast pulse they changed the turbine blade shape
most of the turbines are shaped something like this (
yes that ( is the shape of the turbine and the exhuast gas hits it at a right angle like so ( <<<
on the rx7 turbo since the pulse is so strong (almost instant full open exhuast port rather then a pistong motor with a slow opening exhuast valves) it would have someone the same shape but rather then being fully curved it would curve the top section of the turbine blade but the bottom where the exhuast would leave the turbo is just straight.
this was also doné to help relieve pressure in the exhuast and help the turbo spool up quicker....
mazda did there work on the little turbo motors on these cars
hence why I am buying another turbo motor
check sig
