my 86 IROC vs. an 84 HO Z28
my 86 IROC vs. an 84 HO Z28
ok guys i went out looking for some races last night, nad after about 2 hrs. of no luck i decided to sit and wait for a certain white z28 in town. well he finally drove by and i quicly caught up with him. I got up next to him, (i was alone and he had one other (small) guy and 2 girls with him. Well ive been iching to race him, and i thought that he would beat me, well we went from a 35-40 mph rolla and he hit it, and so did I my tires chirped and i put his car back to my bumper in about two seconds. Well i stopped and talked to the two guys and we told each other about our cars. His is an 84 HO z28 (auto) fresh rebuilt tranny with shift kit, flowmaster exhaust, mid 400's lift cam, ported heads, aluminum intake, edelbrock carb, and a couple other small things. My mods are in the sig. I looked it up and the 3.42 gears were standard in those cars, and 3.73's optional. Mine is 3.23. WEll anyway we decided that it would be a closer race if he dumped some passengers. So we headed out to the highway and he took the 130lb guy with him. We slowed down to about 15-20 and i didnt want to put in in 1st b/c my car usaully overrevs itself going from 1-2. So i left it in second, he put it in 1st. Well as i expected he got the jump b/c he floored it first and he was in his power band. Well he sent me back to his rear quarter, then i hung there for a second , until i hit my power band, and at the end of second i was side by side with him, i hit 3rd and sent him back to my rear quarter and we shut it down there around 80 mph. This was supposedly one of te faster 305's around, it seems as my car is starting to get a rep around town. Well sorry for the length, just wanted to share the good race, but im glad i finally beat him, ive been trying to race him for a year. well later guys.

good race! if you have the TPI for 86' then both your car and his had the same hp ratings. youve got him in the torque department, however. HO motors are strong runners, so beating one thats modded is a pretty good accomplishment

thanks for the compliment, i was really impressed with my car and his, but i thought he would beat me, because he has more work than me, but it will be all over next spring. Im porting my heads, getting some roller rockers, afpr, and installing my slp runners.
