Any clue how 383 will run?... Also picture of mustang I PLANNED on racing.
Ok, I know you guys read crappy posts about this all the time but here goes..
I decided to make a 383 carb for my 90 formula.
Motor specs
crank is a eagle 4340 forged
4340 eagle full float i beams (about 550 grams each)
trw 383 full float pistons weighing in a 497 grams (10.76:1 comp)
victor jr intake which is gonna get port matched to my heads
AFR 210cc Race Ready heads
plan on having a roller solid cam still have to call Comp Cams but probably with low 500 lifts with like 280ish or so duration
Rockers are gonna be 1.6 ratio Pro Magnum Comp Cams (with girdles)
Block is a 4 bolt straight factory
Probably just a 750cfm carb with a 2 inch HVH spacer.
My transmission I plan on useing my Pro-Built 700-r4 with 3.23 gears in the 9 bolt (might change to a bigger gear) with my 2400 rpm flash ACT 9.5 inch stall... I might have it adjusted for higher flash haven't decided yet.
OH and the assembly is at Triple R racing right now being balanced (should beable to rev it to 7500 rpms). AFR seems to think I will have 550+ hp but I'm wondering. It seems to me that 550+ is a lot out of just a NA 383. What's everyone else think? My main goal was for a street car that could pull low 12s at the strip without any juice or forced induction. About the fastest daily street driven car in the area is a high 12 sec mustang (low 12s on juice). IF I can hook up does anyone have an idea what I will run with this combo?

Not sure what you'll run, but I did look at your planned combo and you probably won't start to make power until about 5K and up. Down low will probably be a dog.
Now for Garrett's Freak opinion, Just use the 400 crank to build a 400, duh . Don't bother with the 383.
I just had to say it. Later, Garrett

Some people just don't get the whole 383 vs 400 pro's cons, so it's no use explaining. Anyways, sounds like a good combo. I'm running those exact pistons.
Have you thought about hood clearance.
And Garrett, 5000rpm, where the hell did you get that?
I'm running a 292 cam and my power starts at 2500rpm, anything below that is a dog. He's only running 280, he'll be fine.
And fireturd, that engine will pull, and pull, and pull, but I think those 210 AFR's will be way too much for that setup.

Yeah, I thought that too but AFR told me 210cc would be fine. I figure I'm going to go balanced, solid roller cam, 1.6 rockers, and girdles so I can surely turn enough rpms to use the extra air when I want to. I also heard that using 1.6 ratio rockers will increase the lift since most cams are figured on 1.5 ratio so I should end up high 500ish lifts.
I plan on having the cam custom ground form Comp Cams anyways then I can figure if I wanna send the stall back in to have the free speed change done or not.
As for hood clearance I was thinking a 5 inch cowl from Hawks for 275 bucks but it's a hood pin one. I hate the way hood pins look on a SLOW street car. Now I'm thinking what would a Mr Gasket Street Scoop look like on a teardrop hood. I'll photoshop that on sometime to see. I would be cheaper than buying another hood and paint matching it. I've always like the looks of the 3 red butterflies too.
As for traction I got spohn box sfcs though my passenger side tunnel to rocker bar isn't welded in cause of the 2 cats in the way I figure I will redo the exhaust eventually so I'll get that put in. I'm also using adj. lcas and reallocation brackets too now. I plan on swapping in a tq arm and 15 inch tires maybe if my 9 bolt holds up to the 383 abuse.
I just want to cream my friend... he had a balanced short block done from jr motorsports it's a 383 with a hydra cam... but they talked him into 1.94 valves cause they said thats the biggest you can run on the street without bogging even with a stall. Another one of my friends talked him into going cast iron and having them ported because he says no one racing and making a lot of hp is using aluminum cause it's too weak.
I took a lot of crap when I ordered my AFR aluminum heads he told me he could probably crush them with 2 fingers and thumb cause popcans are made from aluminum and they crush easily...
Another one of my friends had a ford inline 6 he told me he could do 180 mph in, turn 14k rpms, and pull wheelies.... when I g-teched it only had 105 hp... and the wheelies once he showed me was classic axle hopping like crazy.
I swear some of the people here are dumb. I know I talk a lot but I live out in the sticks and I have nothing else to do except read car mags and read everything on the net. I just talked HPP (high-p Pontiac) into giving me a subscription to Hot Rod for a year, 2 years of Car Craft added onto my subscription and another year or 2 of HPP for 49 bucks.

I don't get the dog under 5K statement either. My 406 with fastburn aluminum 210cc heads, victor jr. vortec intake and 850DP is no dog at low rpms. Anything over 2K is good and it gets really happy at 3500rpm. Your combo should put you under 12.5 if you get it tuned right and it hooks.

Well the mustang I hoped to race after I finished the build just met it's demish.... it use to run 11.5@117 with 150 hp shot... well here's the picks
Before:

After hitting the deer going down the highway and as he was walking away the car went up in flames..:

I think I'm going to start to carry a fire extinguisher in my ride. What's everyone else think? Does anyone have one in their cars already? I noticed Jegs sells a riced APC one for 52 bucks.
