A guy at work here has one. It's a 1.6L supercharged 4cyl with around 160 hp. Weighs 2700 pounds and runs around a high 15. Sorta silly to pay 20 grand for a shoebox.

I do not know the hp or torque, but they run 15.5+, and can do 0-60 in 7 secs.

Camaro_1986_19: I'm at work just now and don't have the specs to hand. If you want the exact details let me know and I'll sned them on later.

By the way guys, a factory version with 200bhp is available now. And the standard guys can get the conversion retro-fitted at their dealer.

They're not contenders against modified 3rd gens but are quick for a small car. Way too expensive though.

Those remind me of PT Cruisers, ugly as can be, yet people buy them.

I dunno....I kinda like the new Mini....it is much easier on the eyes than the old one, and a 200-hp version would be pretty quick. Also, they are supposed to handle like a slot car.

OK guys, i can be of assistance here, the mini is,

a british car built in germany with a chrysler engine sold through BMW garages!

There is a stick on union jack available for the roof, and even this is made in the EU!

to know your enemy, look for the hood scoop, that's the supercharged S version. the stats for the S are,

161 bhp @ 6000 rpm
155 lb/ft @ 4000 rpm
1050 kg
143 bhp / tonne
0 - 60 7.4 secs
135 mph (all figures from Evo)

they were awarded the Evo mag "drivers car of the year" and the awards have come thick and fast.

No, no match for any V8 and some V6 thirdgens (lightly tweeked 3.1's can play too) but a good design for a "eurobox"

V. pricey though!

I'd think it would be faster with 160 horsepower..it only weighs like 2200lbs. If it takes 7.4 seconds to get to 60, I wonder how many minutes it would take to get to 135 :\

The Mini is manufactured by BMW. The engine is a joint venture between BMW and Chrysler. There is no 200 hp version availble as of right now. The "S" model has a 160 hp supercharged engine. It is a 15 sec car, but more importantly it handles very well, better than most 3rd gens. As for it being ugly, beauty is in the eye of the beholder......

Retro is in, hence the PT Cruiser, GTO and the Beetle.

Well, here is a vehicle summary from me. Ahem.

1)The PT Cruiser design is cool, but the engine I do not like and it should be RWD.
2)Bring back the Prowler.
3)The Mini Cooper has always been cool in my eyes.
4)The Beetle and Beetle lookalike, the Audi Coupe/TT/Quattro, whatever, is also cool.
5)To GM, you're nuts, why did you kill the F-body?
6)To Oldsmobile, Do something, you have no sports car, nothing you manufacture can break the 15s.
7)To Honda, *#*%#&*&%$#**

Granted the PT, Mini, and Beetles just don't have the look or feel of a large, powerful, torquey, muscle car, sports car, or even a strong old luxury car. RWD is a big factor here.

glad someone answerd the BMW mini engine question, because I honestly did not know! (you should never call it that, Mini is now a sub brand of BMW, much like lexus is of toyota. BMW are very keen to point that out)

the 200BHP kit is available, but only in the UK. It is created by a company (whose name escapes me) that specialise in tuning new cars. I doubt that a) its any state (let alone 50) smog legal, and b) you would want to pay the $1500 (to the best of my recolection) that it costs!

Just for the record, I also like the Mini, TT, PT cruiser, 350Z and Beetle. I think their non conformist approach to design is the exact opposite to the jap dull boxes. the new Renault Velle Satis (?!£$%&*) also should be applauded for its design.

wouldn't buy any except the 350Z though, unless I had many other cars!

I wouldn't go that far I read a test in Car & Driver or Motor Trend (or one of those mags that I don't usually look at), were they had their test mini cooper S run a 15.5, thats more than enough to dust off almost any stock V6 or auto. backed 305.

true, but average lunk head at the controlls would strugle to make a 16.0 - front drive and 4 pot power delivery mean it's hard to get good runs, where we can just mash the pedal to the carpet and run 15.7

This is just a rumor but I heard those minis are specifically for homosexual men. A guy I work with told me this, so I don't know if there is any truth to it.. But they certainly do look gay.

now, if they were to make a 4WD, or rear drive mid engine version powerd by the M3 lump, that would solve that!
