Best race so far.. RSX-S vs 92 formula 350...

Ok before the flames start.. Here's my car and mods: 02 Acura RSX-S: DC sports CAI, Comptech Exhaust, Lightweight 17's with Kuhmo tires..

His car: 92 formula 350: L98 Engine, stock TPI unit, K&N filter with cutout airbox, and an exhaust cutout..

The story:
We pull out of phillips 66 and try to get the stop light.. No luck, it stayed green.. So we both slow to about 10 MPH, and then we nail it. He put a wheel on my through 1st gear. By 60, neither of us are pulling. We are totally nose to nose. By 90, same story.. By 115, he finally pulls past me as I ease it into 5th.. Definatly the most fun race we have had so far. The first times we ran, he pulled about 2-4 car lengths in first gear. Now after my mods we are dead even again.. From a light, he usually gets about 2 cars on me.. Still a great race, wish I could have taped it..

It is an AWESOME feeling to be flying through gears with a car RIGHT next to you the whole way..

We are both going down to Gateway next wednesday, hopefully we can both improve our times (well hopefully I can, he hasn't ran down there yet..)

did the bird spin when he dropped the hammer? thats the only reason i can think of that he didnt kill you from 10 mph. dont get me wrong, im not saying you're lying. his car might be out of tune, but a decent driver in a well tuned L98 should have handed you your a$$....

I believe you. RSX-S can run high 14's with a good driver. And given your bolt-ons I would say you might hit mids if you were good. RSX are samething as the Type-R's if I am not mistaken, so you should have some good top end speed.

Always like to hear those close races that involve actual racing, not a deep-frying of rice.

Yeah whatever Camaro, I didn't fabricate ONE BIT of this story.. I have nothing to prove to you until you show me some facts on your xr5 (i'll be waiting over here..). If you want I can post pics of both of our cars, and have him post backing me up. But whatever, you've probly never driven or raced EITHER cars so it's not like you know what you are talking about anyway..

Hndsm- yeah you should have no problem unless he is using some FI.. I have to get my close races in while I can

Curt- We were both right about in our powerband. He DOES pull off the line, but like I said this race was from a roll.. The time it took for me to get the revs into the good part of my powerband was equal to the time it took his car to downshift and get traction.. The races had been going to whoever got the jump.. But this one (and the 2 after) ended up neck and neck.. It was really a sight to see 2 cars within 2 feet of each other travelling at 115mph..

BigErns90- They are very close to running with ITR's.. ITR's usually ran about a 14.7 in the 1/4.. Whereas most rsx's are running between a 14.9-15.1 area.. With my mods, and a 2.20-2.28 60 ft time, It should run an easy 14.6.. The problem is out here, they run you out of the groove.. So my 60ft times usually end up about 2.4-2.5 (not good for racing)..

If it were safe, and wouldn't slow one of us down more, and weren't illegal, we'd be happy to record a video of a run such as the one I have described. Unfortunetly, I don't trust enough people on this site to post evidence of crimes on here..

I believe ya, I don't see you lying about this one, nothing far fetched to me.

But still, L98 will be better later on for mods.

I believe you, there really is no point in lying about a story like this. Anyway, I kinda like those RSX's, so not a bad car ya got there. Keep up the good work and just ignore the people who flame. If someone wants to flame you for writing a believable story, let them continue to live in their negativity. Peace.

Yeah, he definetly has a better drag car to improve upon. Nearly everything on the car can be replaced with something cheap and better.. Whereas I have to spend hundreds of dollars for a few hp that are barely noticeable..

At last... I'm here. Yep its all true and 92 is right... 115 side by side is good stuff.

Hey AYMAN... that was a funny joke, but were you calling my car slow too? I mean, 92 said it was an even race so I guess both of our cars are slow?

A friend of mine has one of those RSX-S, and I do believe they are capable with the right driver. At the track he was running anywhere from 15.2 to 16.4 depending on how he launched. He is a novice driver with little track time. I got to race him a couple of times with my B4C and off the line he was quick but seem to run out of steam.
First run: B4C-14.4@96MPH
RSX-S: 15.7@88MPH

Second Run: B4C-14.35@97MPH
RSX-S: 15.35@90MPH

My mods are only K&N filters and SLP Cat back.
His is exhaust.

In my old '92 Z28 I tried the airbox cut-out thing and didn't notice anything other than I runied the originality of the air induction.

Sorry to expound here but I just wanted to post about my expierence with the RSX-S. It probably is capable of mid 14 sec runs with littlle effort. Thanks

Boy seems like the guys with slow cars here don't believe it!

I believe it, the only Type-S I have seen run went 15.6, and the only L98 I have seen run (meaning stock or close to it) went 14.8! If you add some mods to the RSX and a little better driver it would make for a good race, so I believe it!

That is a cool race. The only way I can keep from being murdered or murdering weaker cars is to race other box-bodies, which how ever unbelieveable it sounds, it is ALOT of fun. 5.0s, 5.2s, and a few 5.2s roaring. 4 tons of Detroit Iron powered bruisers blazing down the road....
well, maybe that's a little exaggerated.

Really? 92 and I spent 15 min. cutting a rectangle out of the airbox and we were definitely surpised with the outcome. It really slammed us back in the seat. Who knows...

Keep in mind these races are from a roll...

Hopefully we'll both have 1/4 times wednesday night if we both go to the track.

We should be in the mid to high 14 range...

there are 3 reasons why he didn't smoke me.

1: my car is hard to drive. The launches make or break the run. Too high, and the wheels hop, too low and it bogs. I let him drive my car around and he found it impressive how I was able to shift it so fast right back in the powerband. It is not an easy car to drive hard, as shown by the WIDE range of stock times for it (15.5 to 14.9)..

2: We raced from a roll. Off the line, the torque of the l98 pulls him ahead by 1 or 2 car lengths, and the momentum of the torque keeps him ahead the rest of the race. From a stop, it would have went to him. I've talked to a guy with a 305 TPI on stlstreetracing.com and he admits being beaten by a similarly modded type-s driver by 1 car. So my guess is you have been racing from a stop, probly to about 70, and that the other driver is either incompetent or just hasn't figured it out yet. With a 15.3 time for your car, you should be happy that you are beating these. They are right on your *** as far as stock times go.

3: My car isn't stock. The CAI has dynoed between 13-19 HP (10 is more realistic) and the cat back has been around another 5. So if you look at what cars are running with the same mods I have (14.5-14.8), it is a much closer race than a lot of people want to admit. Generally, when we race, whoever got the jump would win by about 1 car length. From a stop it is the l98 winning by about 2 cars...

AHHH that is why I like the Mustangs, they make power over 5000, and can pull up to 5500-5600, so a roll is't too bad, but IMO a true race incorporates launching, shifting, and high speed (or a 1/4 mile), but maybe that is just me!!!

just let that TPI motor breathe a bit better. mine responded really well with nothing but some exhaust mods. i have nothing done to the actual TPI induction. i dont have a problem with much from a roll, and almost nothing takes me from a stop
