Got a hold of GT

Well I finally got the Iroc home. I actually got it home Tuesday, but I dropped it off at a one of my freinds acquaintances so he could do a tune-up and he installed a fuel pump cut-off switch. And I was sick most of yesteday, but he was a real Champ and he dropped it off before he went into school. When I was not sleeping I spent the time reading up on how to make a cold-air intake/ram-air setup. After supper I headed out to Lowes to pick up some air-conditioning duct and to make a long story short, I installed a "ram-air" through the fog-lights.

Well I wanted to take it onto the highway and see what it could do, nothing to fast, just to stretch it legs, had been setting at a dealership for quite a few months. I pulled out of my neighborhood, and got onto the 224 and headed torwards the highway. I was a light or two away from on ramp when a 95 or so GT(I think that was year because of spoiler and body contour). It was yellow with a cheap tint, and about 50lbs of chrome fender guard all around his car. He looks over at me and checks out the Iroc, and laughs and revs. I signal to the highway and he throws on his turn signal and gets behind me.

I get on the on ramp, going about 40, than by time I get off I am at about 60, and the GT flies up my side. He was going about 65 or so, and he waves at me and honks three times. I was a little nervous because it is just after rush hour, there is no traffic, but it is not surprising to see a highway patrol driving around. Plus the fact I am not used to driving a RWD V-8. Granted it is not the fastest car in the world, but it can still faster than most the cars on the road.

I slam my foot about 2/3 way down on the gas and then go WOT. I was not really even paying attention to the Mustang, but I look over and he is about even with me. I was wondering if he was pushing his car as hard as he could. I let off the gas after it hit 5K, and then kept on pushing it. I gained gained maybe a half car on the GT by now, and we are at about 100-110. I decide to shutdown, so I quickly brakecheck, and slow down to about 70 or so, and the GT is pulls up beside me(I had the windows down even though it was only 40 or so) and he gives me thumbs up and shouts just wait till I get my ZEX installed. I nodded and shouted just wait till I actually break in the car and get some mods. He looked a little surprised and then waved me on and got off next ramp.

I thought that the GT would be faster. Given it was not the fastest, it was only 95 or so. I know that Iroc's are supposed to have a depressing top-end, any imput? I think that the ram-air actually helped.

Good run!

I used to own a 85 trans am...pretty much the same car. You are a pretty good match for a stock 95 GT.

With a little work, your car can be reasonably fast. Mine was running high 14's when I sold it...and I had heads ready to install that would have helped me out even more.

Here is what I would suggest doing (when you wanna go faster)

1. exhaust/headers. The headers are a pain to install, but well worth it. I never put headers on my car, and I wish I had found the time to. The edelbrock headers are pretty affordable and also pretty good.

2. 1.6 rockers. They are cheap and will give you a little more lift. Dont waste too much money here...just get the stamped rockers from summit or Jegs.

3. custom tuning. If you are planning on keeping tpi, prom burning is the only way to go.

Go to the track and remove the front swaybar (or take out the bolts in the end links) and you should be able to hit mid 14's. I went 15.0 @ 91.5 with a catback only.

Good luck
-Doug

95 GTs are thw worst mustangs. they were the heaviest and got the same 302 the fox bodies have. the 5 spds are only goos for low 15's. good race though..

you call 145 mph depressing???

I thought that the L98 only had the kind of top end. I meant the way they pull on top end though.

It was a win, and I will take what I can get, it is better then me beating on some Civic, although killing Civics(riced out ones at least) and getting the reaction of "How could I lose to an old land yacht?"

You think the 94-95 GT's are slow, try driving a 96-97 GT Jeezus...I can run faster than those things :lala:

Gee thanks thats what I bought 2 months ago

S'ok though, I knew well and good when I bought it that its probably about the slowest V8 Mustang made in the last 20 years. But, its a hella lot faster than my 305 TBI auto Camaro is. And it'll get better as I do stuff to it. I'll be perfectly happy hitting a 14.5 in the 1/4, and shoot gears and and H-pipe will have me there with traction. You know how much $$ and work it would have taken to make a TBI car run that fast!

OK I just realize how off topic this is, I'm gonna shut up now.
