my 5.0L vs a 0.25L

my friend has a 250cc cruzer bike (not sure of make\year offhand) and he wants to race me. I am tempted but I need to make sure I won't get skooled. Generally I don't race bikes but it's only 250cc so I don't know. Tell me what you think.

Cruiser bikes tend to be a bit slow. A friend of mine has a cruiser bike but i'm pretty sure it's around 750cc's. Anyway, he only ran high 13's in the 1/4 mile. That's still quick, but 250 4-strokes aren't really quick in a street cruiser.

Even if it is a 250 Ninja it wont be that bad of a race. Cruisers suck for speed. My buddy has a 98 Honda Shadow 1100, I raced him in my GTA and smoked him.

Sweet guys, thanks for the info. I am definitely going to race him as soon as he gets his licence. Maybe I'll get the race on video and put it on here, that is if I win

Another thing to consider. If he cant "race" a bike very well, you will win easy. He might be too scared to gun it off the line, or he might wheelie and freak out and slam on the breaks.

A video would be very cool

The guy with the bike even though he doesn't have his motorcycle licence yet is actually quite a skilled rider. He has competed in mountain bike and motocross races so him screwing up shouldn't me a factor. One thing, I've got good highway gear 3.08, but crappy tires for draging (205/70/14 aagh!). Should I race him 1/4 mile off-the-line, or freeway-topspeed?

PS. Another guy at my school has a 1987 Mustang LX 5.0 auto (totally stock except for exhaust) now wants to race me, any thoughts? Man, when you drive a Camaro, eveyone wants to race

why would you care so much about such a silly race?i mean c'mon its a 250cc bike.i think it would be more humor than anything, unless the kids an ******* and egging you and and what not.but you say hes yer friend,so thats not the case.hell race him and take a vid.hell even if you get walked im sure it would still be entertaining.

maroon, he is my friend but that still doesnt mean that he wouldnt play it up as much as he possibly could that he beat me. i just think losing to something like a 250cc would be quite embarassing, even though i know my car is no street-star. i just want to win for a change

I don't see how people can race bikes at such high speeds with so little to protect you.

I am inclined to agree. I would kill myself on one of those sport bikes. The only bike I really feel comfortable with are the cruising kind of bikes - particularly choppers. I love all the choppers that Jesse James builds. Those are some real quality bikes at around $15k minimum per bike.

I have had two bikes, a 80 CM400(beginer bike) and a 92 CBR600(the bad boy). The first day I got my cm400, a guy ran a red light and almost hit me and my wife. You have to be very aggressive. Bikes are fun, but ya it can be scary

You should smoke pretty much any 250 cruiser.

They are all built for beginners and small riders. I have actually riden a few that top out at highway speed (70mph or so).

The 250 Ninjas are a little different. Kawasaki uses a DOHC parallel twin instead of most SOHC singles found in cruisers. They are good for a little over 110mph.

Pretty much any bike over 500cc will run at least 13's.
