Well, I just got tired of reading, so I just skipped to the reply. A few months back, I was driving my roomates 99 formula on the highway. (formula has programer, thermastat, under car forced air intake, ported MAF, several other free mods, and a full SLP exaust sys [ long tubes, random tech cats, and loud mouth] & ran 13.1 in the 1/4 mi in Mississippi. And I've had it up to 170 MPH on the hwy, and she was still climing) So, you can see she isn't slow, actually faster than most. Well, I was doing about 80 mph, and noticed that I had a mustang coming up quick. So I slowed to 70 (speed limit) and flashed my flashers at him as he got closer. He slowed down next to me, and I noticed that this car had a little more sound coming from the exaust than a regular mustang. And then I noticed that it had the roush body kit. And from what I had been told from the ford salesman (embared to be there, but was taking a friend to pick up his lightning, that was there for its servicing) that the roush was just a body & interior kit. So when this mustang slowed down next to me, and then we both punched it, I was VERY supprised to see that I only started to pull away from him momentarily. We both hit about 130 fairly quick, but came up on traffic. But by the time we got up to traffic, he was right back next to me, and probably would have started to slowly pull away. Another reason why I can't stand the ford dealership! They are all stupid, and ignorrant of what they are selling. I had even mentiond to the sales person that I thought that the roushs' had a supercharger, but he assured me that I was wrong, because he had "just" talked with the roush representative the day before. ok, that's my whole story for that one.........

why would you go out and buy your vette and modify it if you where not happy with what it did stock?
who is ever satisfied with what there car does, perfomance wise, when it is stock?

the point i was trying to make (which you missed) is why people go to the crazy extent of putting out of place body kits on their car. Z3 fenders on a Honda? doesnt that look a little out of place? most r i c e r s throw so many addons to the exterior of their car that the average person cant tell what kind of car it is anymore. i personally like to know what kind of r i c e i just whooped

Example: a friend of mine wants to put a Silvia or something body kit on his Civic hatch. that doesnt make any sense to me. i guess a comparison would be if i put a Viper body kit on my Corvette

when i modify my Corvette for performance i actually use the parts in the way they were intended to be used. when i bolt something onto my car, i go to the drag strip and use it. how any people with body kits can say they take their cars up to the crazy speeds in which the aerodynamics of their body kits show gains? how many of them road race on a regular basis?

sorry just trying to point out that the numbers are too simplistic to reallly be used like that
true, but in this post were talking about a Roush Mustang. which for the times those cars run, 100lbs = 10hp is a pretty accurate statement. were not talking about semis, or super lightweight CRXs, or whatever else.

i know you like to argue, RX7speed, but lets try to stay on topic when arguing

there can be many uses for a body kit

be it show, performance, or aerodynamics

the first one I wonder how they can be used for show myself sometimes with how ugly they are but there are others out there who like it so... whatever floats there boar

as for aerodynamics... you don't always need to go 180mph to get any real benifit from them
depends on how good of quality they did for the design on it. now most body kits are the way you make it out for is where you need to go fast if it doesn't hurt aerodynamics but sometimes just a small little change can make quite the difference. 4 little pieces on my car no longer then your hand and just as wide mixed with a little lip going the width of the car and about 5 inches deep sticking maybe 1/4" off the rear of the car cut the cd from .32 down to .28 and reduced lift in half in the rear and about a fourth in the front.... so yeah maybe it won't affect my daily 35mph driving... but there are times i do push the limits and I want any help I can get... I'm sure there are others out there that do the same

performance meaning the body kit might help in some other ways not defined by aerodynamics, such as more air for an intercooler, more space for motor related stuff, or bigger tires maybe.

I still agree though htat most body kits are a waste of time... but not always

even then though on just a roush mustang the formula changes just a little for every pound of weight you add or remove. then there comes issues with where the weight is even. ok so maybe I'm just too nit picky.... jus be glad I don't have OCD ... we would all be screwed then

and me like to argue... not at all...
I did stay on topic for the arguement if you go through a few links to get there

roush mustang>looks of there body kit> body kits having no function> me

have fun guys
