Well I went into work yesterday, and guess who showed up? The Eminem clone that drives the Kiwi Green Elcipse. I was taking my break when he recognized who I was. He said that he had been looking for me because his freind wants to run me. I ask him what his friend has, possibly a Honda lawn mower with a new 2.5 HP engine running 25 psi, or a goped that can beat an LS1. He did not understand that I was making fun of him, and said his freind has a 3000GT VR4. Hmmmm, might be interesting. I ask him if it is stick. Yes. What mods? Boost controller and exhaust. You mean he is running a boost controller with built up internals. What are internals?
Right about now I am thinking this is a joke. I am smirking, and he says give him a min and he will ring up his freind on the celly and show me his car.
Well 20 mins later, and having to waste half my lunch break, the fruitcake shows up. I had a vague idea that I might know which 3000GT it is, because I saw one run at the track in September that ran a 15.5. You bet it was the same 3000, but he had added a wing and painted his car a light blue, and had added stickers galore. I am thanking g^od right now, so I ask the owner if he will pop the hood so I can see what he has done to it. He pops the hood and I start to act very very impressed
. I start asking a bunch of retarded questions, and then I take a deep breath and let out a **gasp** and ask him if that is naaaaawwwwssss line. He looks at his freind and goes yeah, 150 shot. I was pointing to intake manifold, or what I thought was the intake manifold the whole time.
Well the gay homedogs left, and left me to debate if I can beat him. I saw he did have a boost controller, but I know there is a limit to what a 3000GT can run on stock turbos and internals. I am thinking he might be able to crank up a few pounds. Given he ran a 15.5 with exhaust, I think even given his horrible driving abilites he might his 14.7's or so. I estimate that is where I should be right about now. But this will be a street race, and street racing has many more uncontrolable factors than the track.
Now I can either run him this weekend, or I can wait till after this week, when my pullies, roller rockers, timing chain, valve springs and l98 heads come in. I know I will whoop his *** if I race him after this week, but I kindoff want to see if I can take him with my current setup.

Sorry dude, but I would have to bet against you here.
If he's even a half-witted driver and knows enough not to stall the car launching it and when to press the NOS button you should be cooked.
Add the wing and the stickers to the equation and you're toast!
But seriously, the VR4s have huge traction and he can put all that boost & NOS power to the ground. But I'd run against him anyway just to find out. Let us know!

well, you're car should be good for mid-low 14's, but is he really is running nitrous then im gonna give it to him....

How does a 3000GT VR4 run a 15.5? A blind kid could pull mid 14s with them. If he truly has an exhaust, upped boost, and a 150 shot, that car should be well into the 12s!
I have a feeling this may be a non turbo version if in fact it was running 15.5!

How did you know it was the same car, when it had been painted, a body kit was added, and there are now stickers on it. I guess you might have seen the driver, but I don't know! You bet it was the same 3000, but he had added a wing and painted his car a light blue, and had added stickers galore.

Maybe the driver has two of them.Originally posted by 5.0mustang

Now here it is again.....whats with all these people and their "NOS button" where i come from you cant have a button....you have to have a throttle activated microswitch or they will fail you at tech.
The only reason why I don't like NOS is because it is not a constant power source since you have to refill the bottles once the juice is gone. I think of NOS as like using steroids or using codes in video games. I prefer power adders that are always available on tap when you blip the the throttle.

constant power is great.....but ive heard people refer to nitrous as "fake power" dude if it pushes you 1 second or more quicker in the 1/4 there aint anything fake about it. Nitrous is great cause its so versatile.....and its less of a strain on a motor than a blower is in alot of cases (if its done right) because its only on when you turn it on, there arent always high cylinder pressures.

I know, its just that once the juice is gone, it's just gone. I just don't like refilling things. Where do you get your nitrous bottles filled at and how much does it cost? Is the shot of nitrous only good for one pass? I know very little about nitrous except that it is really cold.Originally posted by 383backinblack

you can get nitrous filled at most performance shops and at the track in most places. How many runs you get out of bottle depends on how big the shot is, and how big the bottle is.
If you get it filled at a speed shop though your a retard and probably paying about triple what its worth. You can get it filled at any place that does gases....usually a welding supply store can fill nitrous. (which is good for me, cause my dad owns a fence company and we have an account there = free Nitrous!!!) i'll probably get nailed by him for that eventually though hehe.
Nitrous isnt cold by itself....its a gas, and its compressed so much in the bottle that it becomes a liquid.....this same principle applies to all compressed gases......when the liquid is released from the high pressure area inside the bottle it instanteously becomes a gas.....this causes it to absorb tremendous amounts of heat (think of it as being boiled away.....it needs alot of heat, so it robs the heat from its environment causing the cold you feel on the bottle and in the intake tract) this same gas law governs all such cases the formula is PV=NrT Pressure x volume = N(gas constant) i forget what Ris its been awhile, and T is temperature. If everything else in the equation remains constant....and you rapidly decrease pressure.....the temp on the otherside of the equation must decrease as well. this is also true when you let air out of 100+psi truck tire fast...the stems ice up

Do not ask me how he ran a 15.5, these are the same ppl that thinks that their cars can hit 160 mph with no mods.Originally posted by BigErns90IrocZ

thanks for the info about the NOS 383backinblack. That was a good technical answer for me.

If he knows how to drive the car good (and if the car is in tune) I'm pretty sure he'll beat you. The fact that he runs a 150 shot (or so he says) makes me think hes a poser. Kinda guy who buys stuff cuz it sounds cool. 150 is overkill. Especially on that engine. I highly doubt he built the internals, but it is possible. Considering the car was repainted, he might have put alot of $$ into the car since you saw it last. Who knows right? If he was into tuning he would know he only needs a 50-70 shot to get him on boost. Nitrous is a great tool to eliminate turbo lag and get the car right into the boosted part of the powerband. If someone who tunes right set it up, its more than likely throttle activated and set to engage at WOT. But you never know he might have a button. This is street racing after all, so any rules at the drag strip dont apply. It would be kinda funny to see a guy with a 150 shot and a button ride the turbo lag and wait till he's in the high rpm's on boost to hit it. Talk about stressing his engine!! It might even blow up right there. LOL

Nitrous is great.....but i kinda want to invent an o2 injection system as in pure oxygen.....theres a few problems with tha though....its like blasting an acetylene torch into your combustion chamber hehe. i have some ideas on how to handle the heat and pressure though....look for this in the near future.
i considered trying to mix a very small percentage of nitromethane into my fuel....but i decided that theres no way my ignition system would be powerful enough to even light that stuff off, and i like my headers un-melted too. oh well.

LOL, that would be interesting to see, mixing all those gases like an alchemist.Originally posted by 383backinblack
