Mid 90s Mustang vs LB9
Okay, so the wife and I were going driving to go and return some movies we rented, and this kid in a mid 90s Mustang slowly passes us in a 50 MPH zone, and then he kinda slows down, and we pass him. This kept up for about a mile (didn't change speeds, 55), when I finally had enough. I slowed right next to him, and waited a second. He had another kid with him, and I see him looking over and back, then the kid takes off. I dropped it into drive, and take the car up to about 70, and stop accelerating, with about half a length on him. About a second later, he blows by and slow back down. We caught the next light with no one around. The kid looks over smiling, and I couldn't resist teaching him a lesson. As I saw my wife brace herself, the light went green, and I stood on it, and was completely in front of him by the time we were through the intersection, spinning tires the whole way. When we slowed down, he looked dumbfounded, I guess that he thought that he had beaten us when I stopped accelerating before, but this time there was no doubt.
Depends on what year, but that Must have been a case of a horrible driver. My cousin has an LB9 and I absolutley destroy him, with the tires spinning, and even my Jeep will take him off the line and then run a couple cars back (we went today)!
He must have been ALL stock, and a crappy driver, because from a roll a 5-speed has a HUGE advantage!
Just my take!
Sorry, my cousins is an 84 SE with an 86 TA 305 TPI, 700R-4, Heddman headers, catco cat, 3" y-pipe, 3' Flowmaster, with 2.5" tips.

Maybe
If it had been a V-8 model mustang, I have no doubt that it would have beaten me, but it was one of the 140 horse V-6s coupled to an auto, so I don't really think he should have beaten me.
Must've been a V6. You'd be suprised how many of the V6 guys think they're hot shiznit. A freind of mine ran his at the track, with a K+N and a flowmaster 40 + Turn down and he ran a 17.8 something best time. Made my 16.24 look pretty damn good!
Hey even if it was a V6, it was a kid who thought he had a chance and you toasted him. No matter what, thats always cool.

5.0mustang - His 85 TPI TA came with the same camshaft as the 350 TPI Vette of the same year. The 86 you refer to got the infamous "peanut cam", and was rated 25 less HP than 85. Not only that but the 85 is geared better too. An 85 TPI should be good for low 15's around 90MPH. Enough to keep up with a healthy stock Stang, and more than enough to take a beaten poorly driven one. Hell, I even took a couple Mustangs myself when all I had done to my 155HP 305 was a dual snorkel - and only ran 15.9
HrdRockA4305 - Some V6s. A stock 99+ 5 speed V6 Mustang could take out 3/4 of the TBI board.
Good kill - V8 or V6.

True, I forgot about the 99+ power bump. They're not even that far behind a 96-98 4.6 GT in HP. My TBI car didn't keep up with a 99 5 speed, I know a guy who's got one. That pissed me off too. Oh well the GT can take care of him next time we meet. I'm such a freakin traitor...
15's around 90MPH. Enough to keep up with a healthy stock Stang
I also just read that my truck is rated to go 0-60 in 7.2, and run the 1/4 in 15.4!!! Fear the Jeep!

A healthy stock stang should run a little better than low 15's. Mine ran 14.7 @ 93MPH bone stock and that was with an automatic. I'd imagine a stick would be quicker. (My track is at sea level)
It always boggles the mind every time I see a 5.0 run mid 15's at the track. They CAN run better than that. Sometimes I just want to run up to a kid running 15.8's in a 5-spd LX and say "let me drive that thing before you embarrass us all" You wouldn't beleive how many times I had to show my stock timeslips to friends because they didn't beleive me since they say a couple stock 5.0's running high 15's.
I've seen several LS1's run mid 14's too......
