95 5.0 5 Speed against my L98

I was on my way home and see these set of headlights comping up fast and they got next to me...I peek over and see the MUSTANG GT badge on the side of a 94-95 Mustang....sounded like he had Flowmaster....we were at about 30 and the next thing I know I had just put it down from OD to D and he mashed the gas and I did mine...this was on a curvy deserted road.....well he hung in there because my tranny didn't downshift and as soon as I hit third it was all over by about 4 cars.......next run we are at a light and I leave if in D and spin the sh*t out of the tires cause I know they aren't going to catch very well.....and I move forward a little bit and wait for the light and this idiot is reving up and down up and down...like a *****....and the he holds his and I hold mine to about 1100 RPM and the light went green and the brake was let off as fast as I could and I held that gas pedal to the floor like my foot weighed a ton.....and my car hooked beautifully!!! I had him by about a car out of the whole and he hooked well too....and when second gear was coming at 5200 RPM I hear him shift and a second later I shift and left him 2 cars....then the RPMs kpt rising and I kept on gaining more and more ground and when I hit third he was about 2 1/2 cars back easy!!! YES!!!! I get to the light and stop and he pulls up next to me and says hey bro what you got in that thing and I said just a stock 350 Tuned Port and he asked what I ran and I said I didn't know for sure but mid 14's to high 14's and....so he just nodded his head and I said what do you got and he said Ripper Shifter, Cold Air, Headers and Flows...and I said yeah it sounds nice man....and he said thanks...and I put up my window after I gave him the nice race nod as did he and we went our ways. I honestly thought I was going to lose that race because I have seend that guy drive before around town.....AARON A.R.L.

Good kill man. The SN95 5.0's are not that slow, 4.6's are dogs though. I had a friend with those same mods on a '95 AOD and he ran 15.0@94. The ET sucks but with that MPH it should've run a mid 14.

Sounds like a nice fun race! FYI, 4.6's arent all slow. Its the stock 96-98 non PI head 4.6's that are usually slow. 99+ 4.6's will dog a stock 5.7 tuned port.

'96-98 4.6's are slow, guess I should have been more clear. Belive me I've had my run-ins with the newer 4.6's, win some and lose some but usually a good race.

I would not give all too much credit to the 94-?97? GT's. I ran one on the highway with exhuast and a homemade ram air kit, and beat him. Dont the new Stangs have the Modular engines that were used in the Cobra's? Anyways, according to CarStats, the 2002 runs a 15.3(auto) and the 2001 runs a 14 flat(manual), now given the avg driver that is mid-high 14's on avg even with manual(completely stock). I personally that Stangs stopped progressing after they changed from the fox body, it takes them about 8 years in the new model, to hit the same times as a stock fox body could hit(fox bodys are better though). They finally got back on line with the '03 Cobra.

I have only lost to a three stangs, 2 were modded 5.0's, and the other was a highly modded '99.

Like we said the '96-'98 4.6's are pretty slow, the '94-'95 5.0's use the same motor as the foxbodies but in a bigger, heavier car so they are typically a few tenths slower. If your running 15.3 in a '99+ 4.6 your pathetic.

Wow! 15.3 for an auto 2001 GT? My dad's ran 14.23 bone stock I also ran 14.28 in my friend's bone stock 5 speed '00 GT the first time I ever even sat behind the wheel of it.

not sure where car stats gets their "stats" from...

Cars-stats said my Jeep should go 15.4, you are saying a new GT will barely edge the jeep out! I don't think so.

The average new 99+ GT will go 13.9-14.2! The sloweat one that ran with us last year went 13.9 at the end of the day, with flows (just mufflers, no Cat-back) and a K&N! The 94-95 were low 15s high 14s stock, same with the 96-98s, right at low 15s high 14s!

My friends auto vert went 14.2 with just a catback, and with 3.73s and an H-pipe went 13.9! The new ones are faster than L98s, about the same as an LT1, for comparison.

The GT's get the SOHC engine and the CObras get the 32v DOHC engine. Been that way since '96.

In 2005, the SOHC is going bye bye and Ford is going with a 300HP 3-valve in the GT

I know a guy with a 95 GT that has headers, x-pipe, catback, pulleys, 76mm MAF, and 3.73's. He ran a 13.6@103 with it full weight with ET Streets on it. Thats stock eveything else. Another guy I know has a 00 GT 5spd with ProChamber, catback, 3.90's, cold air, TB, and ET Streets. He ran best of 12.97! Full weight GT with just 16" ET Streets and skinnies in front. Stock pulleys, MAF, and even exhaust manifolds. I'm going to get his GT on vid this summer for sure...it is impressive.

silly ford, about time they got rid of the suck motor. now if I could just get a blown 5.4 mustang . I did see a article in the new car craft about those three vavle heads but I was under the impresion that they were going into the f series trucks only.

Didn't 12.9 require the use of a blower on an '03 Cobra?
If not, then how does essentially 3.90's & cat-back, allow him [00 GT] a shot at an '03 Cobra?
I'm not sure what I'm missing, this just doesn't seem logical...

Same reason you can get a fox body 5.0 into the 12's with essentially the same mods. ET is all about getting a good 60' and staying in the powerband all the way through the 1/4...neither of which an '03 Cobra is capable of doing while stock.

So then the '03 Cobra is running a *traction limited* 12.9?
If on slicks, what would an '03 be looking at?

They are debuting in the 2004 F-series trucks. They are actually gonna be used on the 5.4L engine first. But that engine is part of the modular family. The 4.6L SOHC and DOHC, the 5.4L SOHC and DOHC and the 6.8L V10 are basically all the same engine. The heads and intake from one can be put in the other. the 3-valve heads are starting in the 5.4L but they will trickle down to the 4.6L soon after

The 03 should go wasily mid to low 12s with traction and with better gearing, low 12s all day long! A fox body can go 12s without lifting a valve cover with simple mods, but only trap in the low 100s, whereas the Cobra traps in the mid 100 teens. Plus a fox body or newer GT has a better rear for drag racing!
