3rd gen Camaro bites off a bit more than he can chew

Our Mustang club had it's meeting tonight and when we came out, there was a primered grey 3rd gen camaro with a cowl hood and a little riced out VW sitting across from our cars in the parking lot. We ignore them for a little while as we're all standing around talking when the guy in the Camaro starts to rev his motor. Didn't sound like anything special, so a couple of us laughed for a second then went over to our cars and revved back. So he stops revving for a few minutes, but then starts it back up for a little bit then heads out of the parking lot. Well, I was feeling good having my car back, so one of the other guys and myself gave chase. My friend was in his 13 second turbocharged 4 banger and I was in my 5.0...

So we pull out of the lot and I end up behind him at the stop light. I didn't want to run through the back of him, so I held off and let him get a little ahead so that I could get beside him. We didn't get another stop light, but we did get a couple runs from about a 40 mph roll. I initiated the first one and instantly started pulling on him. He shut down after just a few seconds, so I slowed up and decided to give him the jump this time. Second time around, he gets about a nose length on me before I nail it, and again, I instantly start to pull hard and leave him behind.

Lesson to be learned: don't start revving at a pack of cars unless you can back it up.

I highly agree, don't start something you can't finish. Obviously the camaro couldn't finish it.

I'm sure he knew you had a 12 sec. 5.0.

There'd be no fun if no1 revved.

Just found out from Kevin that jackass drove by revving his motor no less than 5 times after I left...

I'm sure he knew you had a 12 sec. 5.0
As if the skinnies up front with the big *** drag radials in the rear and 2 1/2" cowl hood doesn't give it away that there might be something worthwhile under the hood, the fun ford weekend money winner and vmp express tech stickers on the 1/4 window ought to clue you in

There'd be no fun if no1 revved
Real car guys don't sit across the parking lot revving at large groups like an idiot

geez dude why dont you use a little more intelligence, that is if you have any, i never said camaros are the greatest cars, i just get a little ticked off when people who own mustangs come over on fbody boards and say how they beat us, you know what if i were to go over on a mustang board, which i wouldnt because there would be no reason for it, and start saying how i beat a mustang with my camaro, they would all be like who the hell cares

I don't want to have to lock this thread so lets stop arguing over opinions about whether or not mustangs or imports or camaros are junk.

It is amazing to me that the people who sit at a distance and rev almost NEVER have a serious performer.

In my experience its the guy who idles into the parking lot in the stock looking, but nice sounding car that you have to worry about.

This is very true. I rode with a friend of mine who would sit in the lot in his black 88 LX. The car looked near stock with Ponys on it, and didn't sound too mean, but it had low 11 second potential (never went to the track, but had a 306 with H/C/I and a small nitrous shot). He would wait for the **** to come and then race. Needless to say his reputation caught up and he rarely does that anymore!

As far as a Mustang guy sharing a story, this is Nic, not just someone coming on for the first time. Nic has been here for a long time and has gained the respect from the majority of the members. He has shared many posts, and he keeps things realistic and is just sharing, not proving anything. Mustangs, Imports, and Camaros are not junk, this is just Nic sharing a story he had!

Nic, nice kill man. I've read some of your other stories and yougot one mean 'stang. Please don't judge me or any of the other members of this board by the actions of one (89rsIMPRTETR). Anyways, good race. You still at 12.70? For some reason I remember reading about a future mod and you were hoping to break that but I could be thinking of someone else?

Exactly! I'm not a friend of him nor a Mustang fan (but I ain't no hater ), but some people here really need to lighten up. Sounds like insecurity to me. Must be from the constant losses to the "dark side"

89RS I posted on a different page awhile back when you asked where I was from and where I hang out.
I told you I hang at the 50's Mcdonalds in Dearborn, race at milan, hang down in redford and I also raced in Flint one weekend in 2002. I raced a 69 Camaro in Flint.

It did sound like the guy was tryin to start something. But I don't mind if people rev a few time's and stop, they are having fun showing off there car or whatever. Sounds like the guy wanted to pick on some mustangs and got picked on, lol.

well, i would have to agree with all of you a little bit on the subject. it is understandable to be a little angry when a mustang guy comes on a F Body page and says how a bunch of mustangs beat a camaro....Then again I dont know Nic, but ive seen him post before and he isnt some random guy....i dont think its unfair for him to post a kill that was....a camaro....if it was a import or anothert mustang im sure he would tell the story to us just the same....as for revvin, i dont think there is anything wrong with that, its just having some fun...whats wrong with challenging someone even tho you know your going to lose....if you win, you win, if you lose it lets u know where your car is compared to other cars that you have raced....in my V6 2.8 camaro I used to own i raced a lot of cars and the only one's I beat were Honda's....and im even sure then a lot of other Honda's could still beat me....I raced lots of Supra's from stops and on freeways....it let me see the difference between what a N/A Supra can beat me by compared to a Turbo supra @12 PSI....Ive raced a Ferrari, 69 SS 396 Camaro, 67 RS Camaro, Jetta etc etc...the point is it lets me get a understanding of what cars can do what and where my car is in all of that

Good kill Nic, he's the dummie for revvin at a pack of cars like you said, prolly just an RS or 14 sec 3rd Gen at best. Me, when I got my car, I realized most stock Stangs could take my car, heck, even finding a stock Stang is hard to find, so a modded one I stood no chance.

Maybe he was just lookin for some fun, if not, ahh well , he's the jackass.

Well the 3rd Gen owner did not excercise the greatest intelligence by revving at a pack of 5.0's. Most F-Body owners will recognize that the 5.0 is quote "like a box of choclate, you never know what you are going to get" because the number of combos that are tried and tested. I have run two 5.0s and both times I lost, but I knew that they were not that heavily modded. Around where I live there are too many V-6 mustangs, there is only a 95 Cobra and a 99 Cobra, and a handful of GTs, there are barely any modded GTs except for the 5.0s(and the modded GT usually only have exhaust).

If you instigate a race, well you deserve what you get!

I have never mentioned beating a 3rd gen! The only one I beat was at the track and it was a stock L98. None of the Mustang guys are on here to put down the Fbodies, jut here to read and share some info you might not know about the 5.0s. If Nic posts a kill and it has a 3rd gen in it, no big deal. No where does it say the Fbody has to win the street race in order for you to post it!

I haven't read all of the posts just yet, so forgive me if I'm behind.

As far as revving goes, let me place myself across the parking lot from some cool looking Mustangs. As the guy in the Camaro was. I rev as a greeting and you cannot direct revs or honks either for that matter. Also, you can't tack an emotion to it. For instance, here's what a honk could mean:
1) Hey, man, how's it going?
2) Hey, there's (name here). She/he doesn't see us. *honk* and wave.
3) You son of a bitch, you try something like that again and I'll (vicious threat here.)
4) Counting off for a race.
5) A warning, as in, "watch out."

Revs can mean alot of these too. Just as you can't whirl around in your car, threatening to rip some *******'s head off for honking at you--because it may end up being a friend--you can't get irritated at revs.

As I was saying, if I was across the parking lot, and I revved in, say, the Crown Victoria (let's say after I got a lot of exhaust work and had it running smooth), it would mean something like this (any number of these):
1) Rev your engine, I want to here what it sounds like.
2) What do you think about my car?
3) Nice car.
4) Hey, how you doing?
5) Let's race. (This one would be much less likely in my case, though, like I said before, I'll race anything, as long as it's friendly. In some cases, to prove a point, but I wouldn't go very fast, because most of the time, it's a kid or a looney in that case.

Yet another prime example of a dumba$$ driving a third gen. I can see how the mustang guys(and everybody else) think everyone that drives a thirdgen is a ****** wearing ***** wannabe. I think the thirden has the coolest body lines, and it's a pretty good handler; but I bought mine simply because noone respects them. Even with a cowl hood, they are always gonna be a sleeper! Good kill Nic!

"No one" is kind of broad and exaggerated, I would say. I'm here. And I see what you people are up to. I know to never judge a book by its cover. That's a very versatile piece of philosophy that can be used in many situations that occur in life.

There are still a few smart people left.

I completely disagree. Unless its like that where you live. Cause around here thirdgen owners are just like anyone else(Please no more stereotypes). Believe me no ******s here. I will agree that the thirdgens have the coolest body lines but I can appreciate other cars as well.

and...(post whoring here)...

Where I come from, guys who sit across the parking lot revving the **** out of the motor in their 14 second car are thought to be jackasses. Around here, if you see a group of guys huddled around a few cars, you get out and talk or at least cruise by and throw a hand up to waive.

Unless it's a *****, then you just point and laugh

Well, I don't know what it means there, but here, there would be no cause to get pissed off. The fact is, if I had the Olds going...hell, even in the Taurus or Crown, I'll rev and I'll race. It's something I enjoy. I can win against ANY heavy hitters (with the latter), but I'll run anyway. It doesn't mean that I think I'll win. There's very little way of knowing 100%. If I had the Olds going, yeah, I'll rev. If it's not 1AM in a quiet community, that is.
Chances are, that guy respects your group and your opinion. He may just be trying to impress you. It's much more likely to be the case rather than being a bastard. He didn't flip you off, did he?
