Fairly explanatory. I just want to know how fast you can get your thirdgen to top out.

148, not a race though. I was just going for the hell of it. It was still pulling but I was afraid of getting in trouble

I hit 125+ a few times in my convertible racing various cars. Never wound the coupe out with the 3.45's, but with the 4.10's it gets to red line in 3rd gear pretty quickly (12.7 seconds to be exact).

I know it was probably "late" at night on an "empty" road, but i still think ya'll are outta your skull for going that fast on a street. That fast should be at the track. The fastest i hit was 50 in a 40 late at night, and i didnt even like that. It's just not safe.

I don't do it with any other cars around (except the one I'm racing) and only go that fast on highways with concrete barriers between the lanes and away from any entrance ramps.

It was 2AM on I-75 in Auburn Hills, MI. There were some cars though. I was about 19 at the time, two years ago. Young and stupid? eh, I'd do it again.

hmmm...well the speedo tops out at 110mph.....but i did look down at the tach REAL QUICK......and it read about 5000rpm.....which according to the ratio calculator was about 162mph.....and let me tell you, thats goddamn fast.

some kid in a r1ced out prelude kept giving me sh*t.....so after a few hard throttle pounds he kept coming back....so i got pissed and hammered down....i let off when the car started to feel really light.

this was on I-495 North in massachusetts about 10 miles after the 290 oon ramp. I ran into that kid back in town at home later that night too, and he told me my car sucked.....love r1cers there so stupid

95 MPH, it's always when I shut her down because that's about the trap speed for a 14.6-14.8 with a 3.27

Is any stock 350 in a thirdgen actually capable of 140mph on the street or track?

Theoretically I think that 88 or so Iroc with 350 was supposed to top out at about 149 or so just a shade below 150. Check the magazine articles. Fastest I have done is about 85-90 on the street because the cruising area here will usually have ppl on it even up till 12. I think the real questiob is what is your top highway speed. I hit 120 racing my freinds Talon before he acknowledged that my car was faster.

i know i had my 88 IROC with a 305tpi up at about 140......so im sure the 350 ones can touch 150 as long as they are not speed limited.

Supposedly I hit 155, according to my Mustang friend I was racing. He has an accurate 180 speedo and we were about dead even all the way until I backed off (yes it was getting a little scary).

BTW, this was on hwy 70 in New Mexico between Alamogordo and Las Cruces. If you're familiar with this road then you'll know it's about 65 miles of straight nothing in the middle of the desert. Great road for top speed runs.

I buried the needle in my 87 Iroc (145 mph speedo). After hitting the rev limiter a few times, I slowed down. Engine only had an air foilf and K&N's.

The next night, my friend with an 87 GTA decided to see if his stock 350 could do it. Hit about 140 before rev limiter kicked in.

I like my 85mph speedo for it's accuracy at normal driving speeds, but when I want to go really fast, it is a pain. I hit 2nd gear at 50mph, 3rd at 80mph, and 4th at ?mph. The fastest I ever went was about 4000rpms into drive which is probably a little over 100mph. The nose gets really light when the cars gets going that fast. Every bumps seems like a launchpad. I am not 100% positive on that speed obviously, but with my gears and the estimated speed I was at, I had a lot more to go. I wasn't even in 4th gear yet and with my low gears and cam i think my carbed little V8 could hit at least 130mph. I don't know if I have a rev limiter or not. I know that I can take my car up to 6,000 rpms in 1st gear and still be pulling, but I usually just shift it manually at 5250rpms. So by that fact, I could hit 6,000 rpms in 4th gear which would easily be 130 mph. Oh well, maybe I will get a new speedo when I change my gears. I will need a new speedo gear anyway.

Well I was racing my friends 81 camaro 454 and he said I was pulling very hard while he was at 140 so I'm not sure what top speed I've got. I got up to 5000 and let off but my redline is at 6400!!

About 110 on I-696 and it was about 10:30pm coming back from school with my bro. Very excited, but not something i would do just for the heck of it again.

Its just a one time thing just to "feel" that speed for the most of us, and after that we probably dont do it again.

I need one of those desert roads that go 50 miles straight

is that all?

I dont really know how fast i was goin late one nite out in the middle of nowhere east county san diego, but I know that I had my RPMs up in the 3000-3500 area and I put some things into the mph calculator and that says i was goin around 130 and I still had a ways more to go on the tach but I was afraid of killing myself or getting pulled over so i slowed down... wasnt a race just one of those feel the speed things.

I love my 87 camaro sport coupe:hail: :hail:

I have only managed to get my 2.8l to about 95. The rpms were getting into the 5000 rpm range and the entire car started to vibrate, I figure that was enough, the engine was struggling enough, lol. 95 mph isn't all that fast, but it was a bit too fast for my car to handle.

Don't have a speedo but I can tell you it wouldn't have helped. I-5N, 1:30 AM, my tach said 5500 in drive, and she was still pulling.

383backinblack: What is the calculator to figure out the speed from your RPM?

it was like 12:30am and there wasn't a car in sight for ever....its like that straightaway for a few miles around boxboro i think. no one to kill out there but yourself at that time of night. if you dont push your limits (as long as your not endangering anyone else) you will never find out who you really are. thats livin'

besides, ive never been accused of being real stable anyhow.

use the one on smokemup.com......its probably about as accurate as you can get with that kind of a thing.

Also did 105 in my trailblazer and lumina and 110 in my prizm! No joke. I've pretty much topped out every car I've had or my parents had. It's a real addiction. I hate how most GM trucks have a 97 mph limiter, that's just weak. The trailblazer is one excpetion, I believe that is 110.

fastest I've been in a race was 110mph, but fastest I've been in my car is 145. I adjusted the kickdown cable so I could stay in 4th gear. when its adjusted right though (proper shifting) I can only do bout 120mph at 3500-3700rpm

around 110 mph in a race, and 125 mph in a 30 mph zone, it was like a 1 mile straight away i couldnt say no.

the street i usually race on is a 45 mph big longggg road. and alot of lights.. from any stop light race i shut down around 65.

My speedo was well past 140, friend in his 88 blown vette said he saw 155 on his, but he has a ZF 6 speed so I don't think his was very accurate. The only thing that mattered to me, I was pulling him.

my speedo tops out at 145, and then theres about two inches to the trip reset peg. I had the needle bouncing back and fourth off the peg. Can't say for sure but it was 5000 rpm in 5th gear with a 25" tire. According to the calculator on this site thats 172 mph. I don't really think i was going that fast, but once you hit about 130, your perception of speed becomes slightly impaired

i can tell you this though, that 3 mile stretch of straight road was covered in what seemed like 30 seconds...

This was all on an empty backroad that i know like the back of my hand. I've never been past 120 while racing someone, which IMO is still too fast to be going, i just got caught up in the moment.

140mph on I-70 West of Indy. On the way back from the track and some idiot in his baretta did a fly by on me. I had to defend my honor. The tires or the DS started vibing, so I had to quit. Passing Semi Trucks going 70 mph faster than them is the scarriest thing I've ever done. The thing about speed is that it's addictive and you always need more. Now 140 just doesn't feel as good as it did the first time. I think I'll top out just under 160 if I had the power to get there.

My Iroc vs Mustang LX: 125 mph... we were dead even.

My VW on I10 alone, old engine: 110 mph. The needle on the 90 mph speedo was all the way back around to the rest on 0.

My 91 RS w/ 3.1 V6, I was racing 2 other cars, a Riced out Civic and another Camaro, an 89 Iroc 305, we all went to High School together and I maraudered the Civic, but only got about 6 car lengths behind the IROC, I was doing about a 120, Wasn't quite red lined, let off, 'cause it was kind of a curvy road. Dumb, but it was exhilerating.

I've had mine at or very near 160 on a road back home. About 5 miles straight and flat with a slight curve at each end. Just took it about about 80 around the curve, nailed it as soon as it straightened out, and let off about a mile before the other curve. and let me tell you, that curve came up REAL fast! what a rush....

Fastest in a street race was 90ish with a TA. But 95% of the time I never go faster then 75 in a street race.

My old t/a's speedo went to 140 and I buried it to the trip reset. My new t/a also says 140 and i hit 130 with 1/2 to 3/4 throttle.

Sorry for the stupid question but i thought that Camaro engines had an automatic shut-off at around 115 so you couldnt go that fast. i thought i heard that from a message on TGO. Is that wrong or did you guys all do somethin to your cars? thanx.

The most I can do right now is about 100mph, untill I solve the aerodynamics. The nose gets too light, and the steering wheel becomes like an apendix: it used to do something, but now it's useless. I don't want the factory ground-effects, because in my opinion it ruins the look, but I have some ideas to experiment with. I can reach that speed fast enough to make the ricers back off though(especially one eclipse with 30-day tags)

ive had my 92 rs up to 112 when the speed limiter cut in and my 2000 z28 up to 150 and the needle was till rising pretty steady but i ran out of road. let me tell u its a rush, but brakes dont smell too good, lol. I'm gonna find a long stretch of straight road and find out how fast i can really get her up to

last night, it was about 9:50pm. i was alone, i dont like doing this crap with otehr people in the car,

and i punched it, i had about 1 mile of highway from my onramp to where it ends by my house, i was flying past cars, looked down and on my 85 speedo the white was on 60kph so i have no clue,
car was still pulling. i get to the end and go the stop light and a guy comes up next to me that i had passed, long *** light, he gets me to roll down the window and just saws and i quote, "**** dude how fast where you going",

i say, "have not a clue, just fast", we both laugh, he says that my car scared them when i went by them at about 120 or higher at WOT. so i liked that.
