Trash talking GTP vs 88 305 Iroc-z

I was going down a 2 lane highway running behind a nice clean white GTP with a stick. It was a 2 door, with chrome wheels...it actually looked good - I'd drive one..

Anyways, I'll get to the good stuff. We were about 1,000 feet from a red light, I saw him speed up to pass a truck and I figured he wanted to go from the lights. We hit the red light, I rolled my window down a touch and he said "305 right?", I said "Yeah, just rebuilt thats all" and he smirks and says "305's are ****, I have a v6 and I bet I'll walk ya" . Heh I didn't exactly tell him the internals weren't exactly stock..

So we take off at the light and my BFG Comp T/A Drag Radial 255/50's hooked realllllly hard and threw me out atleast 1 1/2 car lengths and I just kept pulling away. But I figured the next light we hit I'd go from a roll and see how I'd hold up to a wound up supercharger. I can kinda cheat with the radials, especially against bigger hp cars.

We hit the very next light and I said lets try from a roll, I have DR's on my car so it wasn't really fair...and he said alright. We rolled to 25 and I let him start, he pulled half a car length on me because my damn automatic had gone into 2nd and needed some time to wind up lol. I pulled up to his door and just walked right by him.

Not too shabby for a mildy-modded 305, with stock manifolds heh.

Good kill!

GTP's only come in automatic, he must have done a swap. Gtp's have good potential. My buddy has full exhaust, 3.25 pulley, digital horsepower pcm and a CAI, he runs about a 13.4.

Glad to see the IROC laying the smackdown! :hail:

Could he of been jamming gears with his auto or is it a column shift?

I saw him chirp the tires running through the gears fooling around one night last week.

Doubt someone would go through the trouble to convert a GTP to a stick and not have other mods. I'd say it was just some clueless dufas in a stocker who wish he had a stick.

nice kill!!

Im 99.9% sure it was an auto though, there isnt a FWD man. tranny that can hold up to the L67's TQ.

I dont take GTP's for granted after i saw one run a 11.8

Drag radials or not, a kill is a kill! He had a supercharger, was that fair? No it wasn't. If you win by an inch or a mile, a win is a win! Start saving up for a 383 or 406 and kill everything.

Nice kill! You must bee in the low 14's or high 13's? 305's are sleepers, the kills are always better with **** talking involved.

HITHERE know for HITHERE fact there isn't one single GTP (97 or newer S/Ced) that has HITHERE manual tranny. Only HITHERE few 91-92 had HITHERE 5spd with HITHERE 3.4 dohc. But those weren't Supercharged (unless they swapped in an L67, but still there isn't HITHERE streetable manual L67). Anyway HITHERE think the kid couldn't drive it or else he'd give you HITHERE run for your money. Stock they run mid to high 14's. Freaks run low 14's. But they aren't the norm. HITHERE'm not ragging on your car at all. HITHERE love 3rd gens that's why HITHERE'm HITHERE member here. HITHERE used to own HITHERE few. My favrit was my 85 350TPI. Oh yes HITHERE said 85 350TPI. Had it rebuilt and put HITHERE 350 block in there. Not bad considering HITHERE rebuilt 305 cost $100 less.

What do you run in your car, btw?

nice kill, i was on the way to the track (before my clutch was crap) and i pulled up next to a GTP. he looked over and asked if i wanted to go im like sure. we caught a light and he asked the same thing..."305?" and i was like ya, then i get a disgusted look from him! so my buddy whos in shotgun who owns a 89 G92 350 formula just laughs.

turned green, the nitto's hooked after a nice 45 minute drive doing about 70 on the highway and i think i put about 4 cars on him by 80mph...

i really like gtp's tho, i definately want one...and they can go soooooo fast for a fwd v6. mid 14s they run stock...the new ones atleast and low 15s to high 14s for the older more used ones.

nice kill tho, even tho i hate my 305 atleast someone likes theirs

My ex-girlfriends brother had a black GTP that he took to SLP to get the "GTX" upgrade. It includes cat-back exhaust, ram air hood and some other goodies. Anyway, it's NO JOKE. He told me that they are all automatic but they have a "sport" shifting mode that you can turn on that will really roast them. He is in a Grand Prix club and some of the friends he used to bring over have CRAZY cars. Fortunately, I know what to look for now when I see a GTP but for someone unknowledged, they can be real sleepers.

GTX's have the same drivetrain as the GTP. Except they have optional Ram Air hood and airbox, different exhaust tips, optional 17" 6 spoke wheels, and floor mats and stuff like that.

Newer ones have an Optional 3.5" pulley, as opposed to stock 3.8" And have 1.8 ratio rockers. Most don't get these mods from the factory considering aftermarkets are better and offer more gains for less money. But they look damn good with the GTX whale tail spoiler and twin blue racing stripes. Also GTX's have painted lower facias. Bad *** looking cars nonetheless.

supercharger...yeah, but it's a v6 vs v8 so I'd say the supercharger is fair.
