Lost to a prelude

it was a newer one, definatly had exhaust, but the rest I'm not sure.He jumped me off the light and I never could catch up.I'm pi$$ed,because I know I could have taken him.I didn't spin the tires, but this 1st to 2nd lag is killing me.My car has alot of miles on her,145,000.Once I pay off my credit cards, its performance rebuild time!

The newer preludes can be pretty quick. No shame in losing to one. Just means time to mod and get revenge, lol.

JohnS,
145,000 is not that many miles, if it still runs good, has good compression, oil pressure and makes no noises, an inexpensive thing to do would be to get rid of the garbage 86 factory peanut cam in favor of a new one, also do some mild porting to the intake and your performance should increase a bit.
Out here in San Diego we cant be losing to Preludes!

the guys were cool, and honestly I didn't exspect him to nail it at the light, the car looked stock.85tpi400,i know what you mean,if the guy would have pulled up revving, with a huge wing, rims, stickers, etc.I would've had the rpm's at 2k and launched as hard as I could.I haven't had one of those ever want to go though, except the moron in a hyundai excel when it was raining,I said not in the rain,he's like "you scared".then he goes flying down the street,it was funny as hell when hydroplaned the car and nearly crashed.

I don't know, I'd be ashamed to lose to any import especially a Prelude even in my Z/24, If I lost to one in my Camaro, I'd hide my head or sell my car

Hey 92Z28CamaroRulz,I'm not ashamed to lose to a import, because there are some very fast imports in So-Cal,hell a hyundai tiburon gt can beat most V6,LG4,and TBI camaro's,but I wouldn't sell the car for that reason,I would just save up and make it faster.I'm pi$$ed I wasn't paying more attention to the light.I would be ashamed to lose to a **** rocket.Like I said before I didn't get to check under the hood of the prelude, but that thing was faster than any civic I've beaten.

The newer preludes have 200 hp and are pretty light so it is really no suprise you lost. Really people, it is not shameful to lose to such a car. Just because its a 4 cylinder doesnt mean it's slow. I would bet he is not the only one on this board that's lost to an import before, including myself.

Unfortunately as probably know yours has the roller cam so there is really no cheap way around it. For the 85- 86 flat tappet engines I have had nice results with shimming the fuel pressure regulator, using the summit racing SUM-K1102 (204-214 @ .050) cam and some port work, but that is only $79.00 for the cam & lifters.
If you were going to keep your car a 305 forever I would think a Crane or Comp cams roller profile with similar specs would produce even better results but would set you back about $250.00. If money is a concern, I think the best bang for the buck would be getting a used cam from a 88-89 LB9 5 speed or a L98 car. I happen to have an extra one, If you are interested, email me!
Good Luck,
Tony

I totally agree,
These guys down here in San Diego will dump endless amounts of money into these imports to make them extremely fast, and fast enough to smoke many of the cars owned by members on this site. In fact if you brought your car out here and raced some of these idiots, you might find you would have to sell your car as mentioned in your post!

Yeah we V8 domestics are the minority out here, some of you eastcoast and midwest guys might see a honda with a wing once a week,I see 15-20 a day, there are a lot of F&F wannabe's,but alot of these kids get it,I mean they gut the interiors, drag radials, and 10K worth of mods. This kid I knew at work has a real Type-R with g0d knows how much money pumped in to it,and these guys in a 90's vette were talking $hit about his car, they shut up when he offered to race them for $2000,I've seen that car rape new V8's

oh no.. i see about 200 R!cers a week... and more when i go home for the weekend. At the big spot in south jersey, there are a lot of truly fast imports... but ive seen people that do exactly what you said... gut interior or put 10k in "mods" in there car, and i have seen type r's running around. but, these kids still get destroyed by modded camaro's, vettes, and even stangs... East coast has a good share of super cars running around the streets. i saw a civic that was gutted, turbo with XX psi, nitrous, cam, stroked and bored, heads port and polished, it was done up... with street glow... he said he ran 9's... he raced a vette with just as many mods as the civic had, and had spend about the same price... and that vette monkey raped him. im not saying all civics are ricers or whatever, i am saying is that just cause its light and it has a turbo, doesnt make it unstoppable... V8 power baby (and V10 and V12 when needed!!)

the way I see it is, if I put in about US$10,000 into my car (or the equivalent of what some R.icer would spend on turbo, nitrous, etc..), my car would be a hell of a lot faster than the 4-banger and V6 TT cars.

The only respect I have for imports are Skylines, Supra TTs, Rx-7s.. the rest of them can just keep on dreaming.

JohnS: In a way, I'm glad your co-worker with the Type R shut the mouths of the vette owners. No offence to anyone that owns a vette, but I've just been quite disgusted at some of the vette owners that I've met in the past. I'd rather lose to a "cool" r.iceboy than a stuck-up corvette driver.

I agree if u put $10k in to a stock v8 it will kill any stock 4 or 6cylinder with $10k mods.I was just trying to say that alot of V8 guys think just because they have a V8,they're automatically going to win.The new Vette owners I've seen have been ok,its the ones with the late 80's early 90's ones that act like they are g0ds of the street.I got some revenge tonite on a Integra, just had rims that i could tell.I launched at 1500rpm's and left him.I'm lookin for a prelude that wants to go.

Yeah i got to have atleast 2-3 excusus when I lose ,but i will admit when i lose.the milege one is because I got the car with 140k on it,so I've never driven a new or low milege 305.Hey bigals87z28,i don't live there so i shouldn't compare it to So-Cal,but i visited my aunt in Yardville,NJ few years ago and didn't see many, but I was only there a couple days.
