305 Tpi / Ls1 Z28

A friend of mine has an 98 Z28 with an A4. I have a rebuilt 305 with a dumped peanut cam. Don't know the exact specs of the one in there.

Anyways, we raced from a set of lights and I pulled away from him really hard through 1st & 2nd gear. Shifting into 3rd gear he pulled up to my bumper and walked out to a car length over me.

Would a supercharger or nitrous give me enough top-end snot to hang or beat him if we were to race again?

I'm really, really proud that my car smoked him so hard through 1st & 2nd.

I was just pondering, maybe an AFPR would be a good logical mod next right?

I think I'm going to upgrade my ignition system to an all MSD system. Should see a tenth or two from that possibly?

Do you still have the LTR set up? You could siamese the base, runners, and plenum, that will give you a little more top end. If your going to get an AFPR, get the holley unit, I have it on my vette, its a very nice piece and comes with the new gasket.

I think an entire TPI/Intake upgrade is in the near future also. I have stock runners as of now.

The problem really is the awesome top end those cars have. A supercharger on your car would just about guarentee supremecy in the HP/TRQ area, just make sure your gearing is right to tackle them on the bottom end as well as the top! 400HP isnt hard with a forced induction TPI 305, just make sure you do your bottom end to handle it reliably. You dont want to be li8ke mr. GSX in that movie lol.... Rock on bud. :hail:

I have 12,000 miles on the rebuild. I think I could hold some boost for a while

I've looked into it and 10-12 lbs of boost is easily handled stock... That was my plan untill I decided to just go all out cubes and carb with my new engine. Who knows, maybe I'll pick up a supercharger for cheep around here at a swap meet. Untill then I'll be happy with a 125hp shot of laughing gas.

WOW! I'm shocked that you had him through 1st and 2nd. I know that the TPI's are good for TQ but a 305 pulling on an LS1...impressive! Did he hook up off the line? How long was the race? Good run Dan! I hope to line up with an LS1 in my Trans Am (406sbc). I rarely see them in my area - plenty of Mustangs though!

He hooked really good, we actually both launched at identical times and he was right to my door 1/2 through 1st and then my car like a bat out of hell just walked him through 1st & 2nd.

The first two races we ran from lights and both races were identical ( as to pulling him a lot) and he caught up and pulled me alittle over a car length till 80 mph.

The 3rd race, we raced from a roll at 20 mph, and I pulled him through 1st gear & 2nd gear all over again, then he'd creep up and pass me by a car length by the time we hit 80 again.

I was having a lot of trouble with my transmission since last summer, and it turned out to be the bolts on my torque converter were backing off and a few days back I brought it to get fixed and since then my car has ran like a SOB.

It was so bad that a Nissan SE-R hung with me from a roll, my friends modified Grand Am hung with me from a roll too. Back then my tranny was real sluggish and it was really delayed before the power really kicked in.

Well when I first got my car back from the motor install about this time last year, it ran like a mother f'er. Within a week it was running awesome & then my transmission went back to it's usual games of delayed shifting and lack of power.

Since then, I had a nasty rattle coming from under my car whenever I hit the slightest bump. I've gotten under my car with a mallot and beat on every part under my car and couldn't locate the rattle. Finally it came about it might be the torque converter bolts & such, had it fixed and since then....woooohoooo :hail: :hail:
