Surprised by a Civic

I'm not usually one to go and pick on the slower cars, but I was out cruising with my friend and we were out on the prowl, just looking for anything to mess with. I was in Arlington right in the middle of UTA, exhaust disconnected, t-tops off, just having fun. I was beside a beautiful 68 SS Camaro for a while, yellow with black stipes, gorgeous girl driving it, but she wouldn't run it. Oh well. While beside her I look over and see a red Civic DX hatchback pull up and go by. It had a small fartcan on it, nothing major, had some rims, and was lowered a bit. No guady ground effects, no stickers, no stupid pushcart wing, just a clean Civic that looked pretty much stock. We cruise beside each other for a little while in traffic and leaving a traffic light I hear a blow-off valve. My first thought was that it was a fake one, but then I saw him take off from a roll and it definitely wasnt fake. I see him turn so I follow him and end up beside him on a side road. I leave it in 1st but he holds his speed and I have to shift to second to pull up next to him. By this time we are already going too fast for 1st gear so I leave it in second. I hear him nail it and I quickly follow suit, but I was completely out of my power band and it didn't pull very hard. The Civic however was right in the middle of his powerband and pulled about a length and a half (of his car) on me but quickly let off when he stopped pulling me. We only raced from about 35-50, but it was enough to find out it was a quick little Civic. I was impressed, I wanted to stop and talk to him but he kept going and I had to turn around. Oh well.

my bad, I didn't realize my brother was still signed in. That was my car that ran the Civic, not his.

I respect cars like that. A fast civic is ok but a slow stock civic with ground effects and all is dumb.

How hard was the wiring to hook up on that lt1? I almost put a lt1 in my car but decided against it. I wish I would have...I had a wrecked 96 z28 with a t56 lined up for 2500$.

i also was suprised when i lost to a almost stock looking early 90s civic hb, he had me with about a 1/2 car lenth in the 1/8th mile and i could see him start to pull a tad more after that i shut down alittle after. i think it had a gsr engine with a 5 speed tranny. someone told me that it runs 13.8s.

so after some light modding i am going to get a rematch.

i have some respect for those kidna honda's now.

There are high 13's civics here, and even a low 12's civic around here. Hope I don't run into him

If those Sport Compacts are tuned right they can really move on the top end. I took a ride in my friends Supra today, talk about extreme top end. Now my blown 91 Z feels SLOW. I think I'd take him off the line but around 40 mph or something he's gone. The top end on his car is just amazing. His Supra is converted to a single T67 (along with a BUNCH of other stuff) and on the dyno he put down over 700 whp. He told me he has smoked 1000 cc bikes on the freeway but I thought he was just kidding. Well he wasnt kidding, his car is crazy fast. After I got out of the car my heart was pumping so fast I felt like I just ran a mile. Makes me realize just how much catching up I have to do on the top end power of my car. Sorry TPI, but you've got to go.

I think so. If we would have started about 5-10 mph slower I dont think he would have pulled me at all, and I might have gotten the jump, my rpm's were just getting into the powerband when he let off and I shot by him. It was still cool though.

whoa dude. a Supra is NOT a "sport compact". not even close. thats like putting a Chevette in the same group as a Corvette

It even had a 4-spd...LOL! At least it was a stick and a 2 door. Couldn't get many people to buy a 16 yr old with an '85 "Vette"...

It's really true, the more stock the car looks, the better chance you have of getting embarassed.

Some guy was in my area with Ontario plates, just a plane old stock looking Saturn, the only thing he had for appearance was dark windows & 16 inch wheels.

We went from a 20 mph roll and he walked all over me. Then we lined up at a set of lights and I smoked him off the line but he caught right back up and just walked away. He followed me to my house and we talked for a bit, he popped the hood and was hiding a nice fat turbo and pretty much every other goody thats offered for his engine.

But this race was with my original, stock 305

I didnt say a Supra was a sport compact. I said sport compacts can really move on the top end if they are tuned right. Then I wrote about my experience because it had just happened about 35 minutes before I made that post . SORRY FOR NOT WORDING IT EXACTLY CORRECT!!!!!!!!!!
