03 V6 Stang, thought you all might be interested

Since my 5.0 is down and out right now, I figured I'd take the '03 V6 to the track tonight. We just picked it up 2 weeks ago and it only has 800 miles (about 50 of them driven by me) on it so far. To be honest, I was a bit dissappointed...

1st run:

no burnout, slip the clutch from 2500...spin through 1st, spin on the 1-2 shift, miss 3rd...16.55 @ 83 mph

2nd run:

no burnout, slip the clutch from 1500...spin through 1st, spin on the 1-2 shift, hit 3rd...16.05 @ 87 mph

I kept playing around with the launch rpm and shift techniques and finally nailed a 15.97 @ 88 mph on a 1200 rpm launch, but the whole night the 60' times were ****ty. My best of the night was a 2.50. On a better track I think I could have brought the 60's down into the 2.2 - 2.3 range and ran some 15. 30's - 15.40's, but coulda, woulda, shoulda...that's what I ran and I figured it might help answer some questions.

On a brighter note, I did manage to win my class which I was pretty happy with considering it was my first time racing this car

That's pretty respectable lol.

That's enough to beat most cars you would encounter on the street sadly..

nice run? congrats on the win!
whats wrong with the 5.0?.. Usual ford stuff?

i was just thinking, if they made a big "3" like the make the "5" for the 5.0, cause 3.0 on the side of my taruass would look frickin sweet!!

ok back to racing.. 60's are pretty bad. frickin weather isnt letting up. i guess good luck on the car, thought i wish all mustangs would suddenly, all at once, blow up.... hurting no one but a few owners.

Not sure what you consider "usual Ford stuff," I've never experienced any of that, but it spun a rod bearing on the top end of the track 2 weeks ago. It'll probably be another 2 weeks until it's back on the road.

That's not bad. I took my '95 MC Z34 out a while back and ran a 15.51@89 MPH. I was shocked to say the least. I didn't think the DOHC 3.4L auto's were that quick.

Those V6s have worse traction than the 5.0s did, stock. They're terrible - I drove my friend's and only ran it a few times on the Gtech. I managed to pull some low 15s with it (For whatever it's worth on a gtech). I think it was a pretty quick car for what it was. I raced a guy's celica GT-S with it, and had him by about 2 car lengths from 65 up to about 115.

I know some ford windstars had a "3.0" badge on them. You should check it out.

It's definitely got the power to get into the low 15's...my launching skills just sucked that night

Actually belongs to my father. We both race our 5.0's in a points series and the V6 is his daily driver, but when one of the 5.0's is down we use whichever is the more reliable of our daily drivers as a back up car.
