i pull up to a light and look over and what do i see, brand new Mustang GT...i can hear its got exhaust and i figure i beat a 98 by quite a bit so i got this guy well i got em off the line even tho i spun the tires and i had him by about 2 or 3 car lengths until about 3rd gear. He started to shoot by me, at about 100 he was maybe 4 lengths ahead of me when i started to catch back up, i was on his bumper at about 130 when i realized maybe i should back off...(i was running out of room before teh red light) Ive got a 89 IROC with a 350, 3.73 rear, flowmast 3' exhaust and jet power chip...what mods do u think this guy had if any?? how much HP do the new GT's have cuz this guy def had some power, im REALLY pissed right now, all i wanna do is save my money and get a supercharger so i never have to look at the back of a mustang again

They have 260 hp and 302 tq stock.

I would say he had an exhaust at most. Figure about 280 hp with exhaust which is a bit more than you are running, and he is lighter, and a stick. I think with exhaust he should run you like he did.

And you might need more than just a supercharger to never see the back of a Mustang, as I have seen quite a few 9-12 second cars running around. With a 5.0 (any Mustang but the 5.0s the most) you never know what to expect!

 

Man, i didnt know the new mustangs had only 260 horses. i mean thats not bad but look at the newer camaro's in 02 the Z28's had 315 horses ( im pretty sure ) and thats there competitor.

 

I would say that he might have sprayed if he suddenly started pulling on you. I dont think that a new GT has that great of a powerband. Plus you did start to pull back on him you said.

Just like 5.0's, you never know what to expect with an LS1. People have dynoed 300+ RWHP. GM could never rate a cars numbers right. I mean look at the Turbo T/A, I am sure it only has 250 HP .

dont fret man, but do get rid of that jet chip PLEASE!! its a waste of time. 3.73's might be to much for a stock 350. Any free mods? i say 225 hp vs 260 and you got a head of him, lost it, and then started to pull.... thats sounds good to me. and 25th, that guy is gunna pull 20hp from exhaust?? maybe no cats and headers, but a H pipe and mufflers? Its sad that the tbird has more hp then the stang... and its smaller then the 4.6... (didnt think you could go any smaller?) 3.9L v-8 reminds me of the SHO's 3.4 engine.

 

If you have the stock TPI and 3:73s, that would explain why he passed you at higher speeds/rpm.

 

Yes, remember the new GTs have 6 cats! If you take the cats off completely, add a cat-back and maybe headers, easy 20 hp. He might have sprayed but if it was a 100 shot he would have walked you by a lot more. With a 100 shot he would have a low 13 second car, and that is no 4 car lengths!

 

holy chit 6 cats!!! Why! are thoes engines that bad on emmsions? My gf's friend has a 02 GT and she gets worse gas mileage then i do, then again she drives it around town, never highway... plus she cant open the hood, and yes she is blonde. Guys wana race her all the time, but she is so out there at the stop light she doesnt know whats going on...
