Raced a newer Silverado from a roll....

A while back I raced a newer Silverado with the 5.3 in it and I must say he punched it before me and got a good two cars until I went WOT and passed him....the roll was from about 55-60.....it had some spunk..but when I caught him at a light....I waited for the nod which he proceeded to do and went on green....I babied it off the line to about 1500 RPM and then went WOT spinnin first and second past him and walked him...what do those Silverado's run in the 1/4?.....AARON

I'm guessing low 15's, I've got a 02 reg cab-short bed-2wd-5.3 auto with 3.73's and it is respectable at lower speeds.

yea, thoes cars with the 5.3 are pretty quick. imagine them with a 6.0 from the caddy? 345hp in a light little step side.. that would be awesome.

Yeah those things are quick for trucks, I think they run around 15.4's or so, my friend had one with headers true duals with no cats , a chip, ram air, and a 3.73 and he was breaking mid 14's with no traction off the line.

The Silverado SS was on Motor Trend TV last weekend or the weekend before running 14.8 in the 1/4. Not bad, for a pick up. It's still no where as quick as a lightning though.

GM wont admit that they missed the mark on it the sports trucks... they said that is for a everyday mans crusing truck basicly... its got power and AWD to do a lot, just dont race her... Now has anyone seen the SS Silvarado Concept that they have now? its the short bed, reg cab with 3.73's, 6spd, and 395hp 6.0 motor... that would destroy a lightning.. its a lot lighter, and more power, and its a Chevy

Those 454 SS trucks are nice, but they choked the motor on those things. I think they might have put out like 400 hp.... pretty lame for a 454. With a decent cam, intake and some head work I think it'd make for a nice truck.

If you like Trucks that bad, go and buy one and then BS about it.
A truck is nothing but a truck to haul something. Not to brag about now you raced and a beat a truck.

NM I read the thing that says they are about equal. So all they did was SC the thing and out exhaust on it? Why dont they slap a cam or something in there so it will murder Lightnings...

apparently DJP87Z28, you haven't seen too many trucks that pull good numbers in the 1/4, I would brag if I beat a Syclone, Typhoon, Lighting, S10 with a small block ( which I previously owned before getting my GTA ) etc....and the nw Silverado's with the 5.3's are pretty good with some bolt ons, and I wasn't braggin about beating it, I posted to see if anyone knew what they ran and how good bolt on's do for them...looks fairly good to me from what I have read and seen....so the next time you pull up to a truck, don't just assume its just to haul something...it might be hauling A$$ and kicking yours' at the same time.....AARON

I really don't care whats under the Hood or how fast they are are
because they are a SH-t BOX TRUCK. In my opinion, Trucks rank on top of my dislikes next to imports and SUV's.

I dunno how anyone could dislike trucks so much, but to each his own. I think they look BADASS and would be so much fun to have a fast one. And they are purely American(I know im canadian but it still applies). When was the last time you saw a truck with "european styling" and all that great stuff. I think they rule but you know....

my mom has a 1500 4.8 reg cab short box...and that little truck runs pretty good....
i raced a late 80's gt mustang from a stop (leading right onto the freeway) and he pulled me ever so slightly to about 75 were i shifted to 3rd...and im sure you guys know when 3rd comes its a dog.....

there pretty quick for a truck....remember..the new ones are LS1 based...we know how they respond to mods..

the 454 ss was rated at 235 hp and 425 ft pounds....redline was 4,800..

my parents had a 91 1 ton extended cab 8 foot box....with a 454..
that motor was 290 horse and 480 ft pounds.....that thing ran to 80 like you wouldnt beleive..and the turbo 400 would nail 2nd every time...

All you Truck racers, if you like them so much sign on with a Truck Junk Form and BS their. Also the comment is right, I can't stand Trucks. A orignal owner of a 1987 Camaro IROC-Z.

I ran one of the newer Silverados yesterday, extended cab short bed. He went 15.62 @ 89.24 mph. Far as I know, all I could tell he had done was exhaust.

I guess you dont have a family to cart around, some of us have no choice but to own SUVs or trucks as well as our third gens. I have a 454 Suburban 4x4 as a family model and I must say, I love that big old beast also!
