New car, Very impressed

Well as some of you may know from my previous thread where I asked what the 305 HO camaros run I have been looking for a project car for my brothers 15th birthday so that I could get him into cars and so we could bond yada yada yada . Well I had 3 cars to choose from .1.) 83 Z28 HO 2.)79 Z28 w/ a 400 3.)86 IROC w/305 tpi. Well the one that sounds the best is the 79 but the guy wanted to much for it . I ended up getting the Iroc because I traded the guy some Tires for his truck and he dropped the price big time. Well anyways the car has a 3.23 gear and posi , flowmasters , and a K&N filters. So I took it out to the track friday and after 4 runs I pulled a 15.0 @89 MPH. Thats freakin awesome for a 305. Since I have another year until my brother can actually drive the car we are going to slowely make it faster . I want it to run somwhere in the mid 13's by the time he is 16, and now that we have a 15.0 baseline to start out with , this project is looking good . Well anyways everytime I put a new part in it I am going to take it to the track and post the mods and the times just to maybe give some of the other 305 TPI guys some ideas .Sorry this post is so long , just wanted to share the good news.

Thats awsome news. Just make sure he knows how to hand the car well before racing it. I have seen a lot of bad things happen to "kids" with fast cars and no experience behind them. Good luck with the car and again, congrats!

Thanks guys, hes a good kid and he plays 3 sports and gets good grades , and he doesnt have time to get a job so I kind of wanted to reward him for his hard work , I am really excited about it. I already got a set of edelbrocke headers brand new for a $100 from a friend So I am going to show him how to put those on and we will go to the track on friday and I will let you know how it goes.

Wish my 305 ran 15 flat also then I'd be closer to my goal with this engine to be in the 14's. Ran a 15.21 @ 90.18 mph with a 2.19 60ft yesterday :lala:

theres guys running low 12's on 305's....
baddest305 runs 11's
tim burgess runs mid 11's
and i beleive willie is knocking on 11's

on that 15.0@89..what was your 60 ft?...

first time i ever raced my car...91 LB9 t-5 with G92
i got a 14.8@93....

the fastest it ran was a 14.1@almost 97...thats fast enough to whoop an unsuspecting LT1

but i spun a rod bearing...now i have an LT1 in it lol

sound like your headed the right way...headers, exhaust..all the free mods K&N, ground down egr walls and a fule pressure bump and youll be a low 14...

Sounds good. Having a fast car young is the best way to go in my opinion. Maybe thats because I had this stang at 16, and a 66 stang before that. I think having a fast car, respecting it, and learning on it helps you in the future. If he is responsible he could have a 13 second car and know how to handle it!

Good luck, and nice work being the older brother!
