Who would win this, the 82 Ta is a stock V8, i dunno more than that. Or a 2001 ranger, 4.0 auto, 4:10 gears with limited slip. Thanks. How close would it be?

Could be a very close race, without more info it's hard to tell.
As a reference, my friend's '01 ranger 4x2 3.0 auto, stock gears (don't know the ratio but it was an open differential) and k&n ran something like 18.2 and I don't remember the mph. So, with a bigger motor, better gearing and posi, I'd assume that the t/a would have some trouble. But then again I don't know what stock 82 t/a's run.

My friends 2002 Ranger FX4 extended cab 4x4 with 4.10 gears ran a 16.2@86 at the track this year with a cold air and thats it! I was impressed. He has the SOHC 4.0 V6, they have 205hp. His also has the 5spd auto, that thing shifts real fast and geared good. I can beat him with my Crown Vic but not by much.

If he can't drive, he'll spin his **** off. If he can drive it'll be a good race. Do it and let us know the outcome dood
will do, the 4.0 SOHC is rated at 207hp and 238 trq. my buddys Ta i think is like 145hp.

my buddy had an '01 4.0 4x4 ranger, m5, 4.10's and it would have took my lg4 i think. Being a slush box it could be close.
Well i raced my buddy today. He has the TA, i had my ranger. We took off and i put a car on him instantly and just kept walking. He was surprised, needless to say. We race for well over a 1/4 mile. I had fun

Don't underestimate the 4.0 Rangers. They are surprisingly fast if you can get them to hook, as your friend found out.
Here's my idea for a sleeper: take a 4.0 Ranger 5 speed, add an intercooled supercharger, redistribute some weight to the bed. Drop it a couple of inches, do some exhaust work and tuning and look out! You would get to wear out the phrase "he never saw it coming."

Either way the 4.0 liter v6 in my parents explorer is absolutely pathetic.
this 4.0 sure isnt. I dunno if its because they are much bigger or what, ive drove 1, they are pretty bad lol.
