92 Z-28 Vs. 94 Mustang GT
Hey I drive a 92 Z-28 305 camaro stock auto with 80,000 miles my buddy just picked up a 94 mustang GT 5.0 5-speed with 25,000 miles stock. I'm almost sure he will win the race but I was just wondering if any one thought different. I think my only chance is if he can't shift. I always launch perfectly with great Reaction time. But i still dont think i can overpower the pony any one think otherwise???

Whats a good time for a 92 5.0L TPI Z/28? I had a 95 GT 5-speed (same thing) that went 14.71@93 stock, the guy driving it was a bit of a car whisperer, so I wouldnt expect that on the average. My best times were 14.90@94. I think you have the easier and more consistent car to drive, and its going to take a hell of a driver to beat you if you go from a dig. From a roll, he will have the advantage.

A manual 92Z can run easy mid 14's all day. If you can drive that is.
I know my brother's ran 14.4 when he had it and it was stock down to the paper filters.

Actually it should be a close race, I know that my 85 Iroc with a 305 TPI had slips for a 15.1@90 or so mph and all it had was a tune up, good tires, and a K&N filter. I would assume that a 92 305 TPI would be able to run a better time, even stock. I would guess that his Z-28 should be in the high 14s, which seems to be what time the GT runs. It may have a 5.0 engine in it, but the body is heavier than the older gen Mustang the 5.0 was in and I believe that the 5.0 was detuned in 94 I think.

The times I've seen for the 94-95 cars are some of the oddest ever. I have seen mid 15's to mid 14's stock from them. My friend only could manage a 15.1 from 94 COBRA! And he could drive good also. But that was hot weather, high altitude, etc. My other friend has 3.73's, pulleys, full exhaust, 76mm MAF on his 94 GT, He ran a 13.5@103 with it on ET Streets!
Thats stock intake, TB, everything with over 100,000 miles. The computers in those cars are alot of the problem. That can be fixed with a chip though, good custom one at least.

I think hes got you. His car should be 14.8 - 15.1 yours, about 15.2 - 15.5.
