I Need to VENT!
This is actually my first post under the Street Racing board, but it made me SOO mad I just had to share. The idiocy of some people is astounding.
So I'm driving down the street today, headed to the highway, on a 55mph street going about 60. All of a sudden, some type of family sedan, either GM or Ford family, not cool but newer, comes up beside me, and starts revving his engine. It's clear from the getgo that he has a SC and wants to show it off, but I just flat out do not street race. I'm not judging, it's not a smart move in my financial position
.
Anyways, so he won't stop revving, so to satisfy him, I just drop it in neutral and do a quick rev....I wasn't going to do a quick pull on him because I didn't want to make him think I REALLY was going to race. Unfortunately, he thought I was doing it for real and he takes off.
Come up to a stoplight, and I know what he wants, so I roll down my window, and the convo goes like this:
"Sorry man, I don't race on the street"
- "I drive C5 Corvette, I know that you have a TPI in that, it's got no muscle!!"
"You don't know what I have in this! It's not stock!"
"Yeah it's a TPI! Got no muscle! Let's do this!"
So I know what's going to happen (does all the time), so light turns green and I sit there while he peels out and does his thing. Once he's off, I start going, just to make a point, ya know. So I get back up to my speed, and am in no way trying to catch up to him. Unfortunately, he hits his brakes, so I'll catch up and he can yell (while we're driving side by side:
"You just got SMOKED by a supercharged family sedan!"
-"I didn't even try! I told you I don't race!"
"That thing's got no muscle! Stupid TPI!"
Peels off again. For the next FIVE MILES he shot off, hit his brakes, let me catch up, and repeated the cycle. I was seriously going the same speed the entire time....what did he think he was doing??
So eventually we get to the highway and I get over in the fast lane to do my 80 in a 70 thing, while he's in front of me, which is fine, yet every time the other lanes close up, he slows down just to **** me off.
Now, for my opinion on this matter:
I have no problem that the guy had a fast family sedan. It may or may not have been faster than my car, but I don't care....I'm not going to get pissed off because somebody has a faster car than me. What pissed me off so badly is that he went about doing his thing thinking I was driving a stock TPI (with no muscle, mind you), that he had smoked me off the line, and that he was the man and I was a loser.
It's one thing to be a jackass with a fast car....it's another to be an idiot and act like someone else is a loser that isn't even trying to challenge you. Also, thinking he knew exactly what my setup was and the **** on the highway pissed me off as well.
What's sad is that, as I watched him accelerate off the stoplight, it wasn't that spectacular. I would have blown him off the line with torque, and could have chilled at speed limit after that...but I don't race.
I'll admit, it's true I do have a TPI right now, but it's not stock, and I have a Stealthram , heads, and an LT4HC waiting to be installed soon.....how would he have known?
Dumbass. People **** me off.
Thoughts?

yeah, that guy was an a$$hole. i admire the fact that you kept your cool, you coulda totally ripped him a new one. the only family sedans that are supercharged stock are those pontiac grand prix gtp's.... thats probably what he had, which is no match for an l98 off the line....
i hate it when people are obnoxious like that

No it was something that was definitely not stock....definitely wasnt a GTP or anything like that, I'd recognize it. It was like an oldsmobile or something, but I'm pretty sure the engine was not stock. Regardless, I wasn't too impressed, just pissed off at his ignorance.

sounds like a typical bone headed C5 owner with no clue about anything. I bet he's thrilled running a 13.7 (cause he can't drive) in his LS1. I admire your courage though, after the first time he pulled his ***** crap I would've dropped the hammer and left him in the dust

He probably had too much money and not enough brains....I'd bet money he took his "new" family sedan somewhere and said "make it fast", and doesn't think anything can be done to make his C5 faster.
Well at least we know now that TPIs have no muscle. I guess I was fooling myself. That SC'd family sedan was the definition of muscle, let me tell you.

Unless this guy had some serious mods you should of been able to take him. I have a 96 Olds LSS with the 3800 series II supercharged V6(240hp stock). I've gutted the airbox and swapped out the stock 3.8" pulley for a 3.4" pulley. This is the smallest pulley I can run right now without running into KR issues, Once I open up the exhaust system a bit more I'll try a 3.25" pulley or even a 3".Anyhow my car should be a low 15 to high 14 sec car with the mods I have. The LSS shares the same platform as the Bonnieville and the Buick Park avenue. The Bonnieville SSEi and the Buick Park Avenue Ultra are also supercharged 3800's and depending on the year might be 240hp stock(like my LSS).These cars are heavy though at around 3800 pounds. Like I said earlier unless his car was modified an L98 should be able to take one of these cars considering the Hp is about the same but the F body will be lighter. I do believe that my olds is faster than my LB9 Iroc convertible though, but the convertible gets a lot more looks
This is my LSS(not all LSS's are supercharged)

That may be it right there; his was black. I thought it might have been an Olds.
Can't wait to finally install my parts, tune it, and go hunting for him.
I'd make an exception to my rule for this guy.

I just want to say kudo's to you for the restraint you showed !
That's self control!
Me on the other hand, I would have pulled up next to his C5 and smoked him so bad with a "TPI" and showed him what REAL muscle is!
Vette owners get mad when they lose!

The sedan would be no competition at all !
I was talking about making him go home and get his vette that way I can show him how slow his 50,000 dollar car is.

i know you fbody guys like to bash Vette owners, and i know most of it is all in good fun, but try to remember not all Corvette guys are like the tool descibed in this post. dont hate the car because of the idiot behind the wheel
BTW- theres NO WAY i could have retrained myself from putting that fartknocker in his place. wonder what he would have said if a TPI Corvette stomped a mudhole in his a$$

You don't need to get defensive; I think what Bad was talking about is those guys with too much money that buy a Corvette, knowing little about cars, and believing it to be the fastest thing around cause "man, it's a Vette!" Those types get pissed off when they get beat by something they were convinced was slower.
There are plenty of guys with Vettes that DO know about performance, like you, but there are way too many of the other kind, with money and little knowledge. I personally know quite a few guys with C5's that haven't touched them because either they didn't know they could, or because they figured they were bar-none the fastest one around.

im not getting defensive, just pointing a few things out. you know where im coming from, after all im sure you dont like being called a ******* just cause you drive a Camaro
on the opther hand, i know stereotypes exist for a reason. ive seen plenty of retards in brand new C5s running low 14s/high 13s at the track getting all pissed and wondering why the older Vette they ran earlier just absolutely smoked their 40k dollar new car.
its just some of the newbs on fbody sites see the other members playfully bashing Vette owners and think its the cool thing to do cause they have a fbody too. no one ever mentions the possibility that some Vette guys can be cool.

I was refering to the Tool's like Jamesbob mentioned. I have several friends that have TPI , LT-1 / 4 , and LS-1 / 6 vettes and F-body's. They all say the same thing about "most" vette owners (more money than brains - little pee-pee syndrome)..... they also use the ******* (f-body owner) comment. It's all in fun! We all have nice cars in our group of friends. Sometimes I wear my special baseball cap (beer cap with attached ****** in the back) when I'm getting ready to smoke my buddy's C5. It's pretty funny!

....I knew I kept a brick in the center console for SOMETHING.... Seriously though, I too know a few vette owners with fat wallets...I know a couple with fat wallets and good car sense too, My buddy doesn't like drivin his vette because it's slower than his Camaro (high 8's:hail: ). Next time though, smoke that biasturd with your "muscleless" musclecar....lol

jamesbob, you're a bigger man than me. I too would have dropped the hammer on him.
Things are different now on the streets. I think the current horsepower wars among the automakers seem to have affected people's minds in some abstract way. Back in the day, if you got your butt kicked by a truly badass car, you were likely to just say "oh well he was a worthy competitor." And if you pulled up beside a Charger that had a "440 Magnum" badge and an evil sounding cam that shook the earth around you, you didn't rev him in your 4 cylinder Monza, out of respect for the machine. You just sat there and enjoyed that sweet music while you could.
There just doesn't seem to be any respect among street racers anymore, and jamesbob02's experience is further proof.
.....off soapbox...........

Whenever I'm driving and I see a serious machine, I don't give the guy any trouble, I sit back and enjoy the pretty view and the rumbles. One time, a late Z06 and I cruised about five miles or so on the freeway, neither of us racing or anything, just cruising. I liked how his car looked, he liked how my car looked. (I guess, even though I have primer on the hood... dunno) It was some sort of camadrie between the ranks, so to speak.
Now if some idiot in an econo-box tries to start something, I'll more than likely give him some exhaust fumes (from my rusted-out muffler) to sniff, and a nice view of my tail lights.

Yeah, I feel the same. I give due respect to the F-Bodies, Vettes, and even Mustangs....even stuff like a nice 300zx or a Supra; something that was built for performance. Because, come on, you're not going to always have the fastest car, so you give respect when it's due.
But when somebody with an inferior car (or brain) goes hunting on the street for a car they should give respect to, that's messed up. A lot of them have a chip and feel like they have something to prove, ya know? The whole scene is getting screwed up with this Fast and Furious crap; I'm just glad there are guys like us to represent the old school muscle like we should.

It's odd how people thinks that seeing a 80's or 90's camaro, for 10 plus years the owner hasn't done any mods to the car. It's the same people that calls any third generation camaro an IROC.

Ya, had something similar happen today on the way to work from school. My thottle sticks a little when its wet out (forget what causes it, something that needs to be fixed but works for now) so i was mashing the gas as after a couple 3 times to the floor and up real quik it goes back to normal. Well this kid in a new gen mustang thought iguess that i wanted to race. The only problems were that i didn't, it was raining and trying very hard to become freezing rain or snow, and if i am going to be beat its not going to be by a v6 mustang that i know is faster than me and don't really want to prove it. Yet this kid in traffic, in the crap weather would repeatedly just punch the gas and run up to about a foot behind the guy in front of him just be cause my lane started to edge up on his. There are people out there that just get way to into the whole raceing on the streets thing. Quite frankly if i were you and had your car i would have (weather and traffic permitting) let him get about 2 cars out, and puched it. Just enough distance for him to start thinking he's tuff shyte and then boom, nothing but tail lights. Then again, thats if traffic and weather were clear enough for it. You deffinantly have more self control than me.

Well, its really the cops thing that holds me back. I haven't had great luck since getting this car a year ago, so I try to play it safe. It has nothing to do with "self control" or moral or safety qualms. Rest assured, that if I KNEW there was no police presence, I would have taken him to the limits. Lets see if his car can do 150, ya know? My guess is not. Anyways, I just figure it was a smarter decision not to.
I got a ticket for 78 in a 45 a year ago that, luckily, was from an off-duty cop (so he took it easy) and was my first ticket EVER, so I was able to go to traffic school and get rid of it immediately.
Obviously, that experience is on my mind constantly when situations such as this arise.
Once I get the combo finished and tuned, I'll find him....and pull him off a light just long enough to where he knows he's beaten - to the speed limit. Haha.
In a related note, I may have actually seen the guy on the bus that takes us back to our cars after class....he was eyeing me like he recognized me, and it kinda looked like him, but I can't be sure. I highly doubt he goes to college if he has two cars, one being a C5, unless his daddy's really rich. There actually are a lot of kids like that around.
Anyways, can't wait to get that combo done.....
