the WRX runs 14.4@95.4mph. theres a new version the WRXsti i think. it clams a 13.1 in the 1/4 . i saw one of those at the track last time i went. the best he could turn was a 13.6....Eric

They are pretty quick. They are killer off the line but fall kinda flat up top. however, they can still clock off mid 13's.

Check out this months Hot Rod magazine. They compare a WRX STi to a SVT Cobra. Even though in the end they say that they cant pick a winner it seemed that all of the comparisons pointed to the Subaru as the dominant vehicle. I'd say watch out because the numbers looked pretty impressive.

Hot Rod really screwed up with the Cobra test. the cobra outhandled the WRX yes, but they only got a 13.1 out of it. that's REALLY sad. they had to have missed gears or something. I haven't seen a stock one run slower than a 12.7

CobraKiller has one, not a 2004, but a WRX, and has gone mid 13s with a few mods. The regular WRX is probably a low 14s car, and the STi is a low 13s car (only one I know of went 13.1 @ 102). Not something to mess with on the street.
And dont listen to some of these magazine tests... most editors cannot drive, or test cars by launching them easy (not how a real world run would go).

Get rid of that IRS, throw in a built auto and run the ET's to match that trap speed.

Screw the auto, real racers shift their own gears!
Built 8.8 with some 4.10s, and a clutch and you would have an easy mid 12 second car.

The Cobra also lost slightly in the handling dept. It did not win. It was behind the Subaru by about a second.
I would still take the Cobra just not with that horrible yellow color scheme.

The cobra is the better car 1/4 mile wise..these editors of these mags just can't drive to save their lives. And yes my car went 13.5's@100 with just exhaust work done to it..now with tuning and boost adjustments it will be in the 12.8 range at around 103-104. Not bad for a car i drive everyday and sees more snow than most SUV's.

People change cars, and for someone that doesnt mind any car as long as its fast, they will go through different cars...
But Ill let him tell you exactly why!

I like to experience the whole spectrum of the car world
My WRX suits me better for what I need..great in the snow,$1100 in mods has it as fast as the firehawk(welll close..the firehawk was mid 12's i'm in the high 12 second range right now). And the mustang is simple..I like drag racing and for drag racing there is no better car than a fox body mustang IMO. You can put one into -the 13's or even 12's for $1000-$1500 or less(and no that doesn't mean nitrous). For under $5000 including the cost of the mustang I bought I will run 12's and have the car painted this year..not too bad if you ask me. Ok i'll put on my flame suit now.

Your a liar, you cant do that in a Mustang...
I dont think you should get flamed. We all understand and value others opinions. You went thirdgen, and 4th gen. Time for a change. Most of us will do that over time!
And you can hold me to that race next season!

Yeah I hear you I even traded my GTA for a 67 Stang not to long ago cleaned the stang up sold it and bought my GTA back. The fox body mustangs are good cars and the aftermarket supports them heavily, wish the third gen F body support will catch up. I have always loved third gens since high school although I grew up a Mustang fan. Theres just a million late 80's mustangs and Camaro's around here my GTA stands out a little more. Although I can appreciate the technology in these new imports such as your WRX they just don't hold any mystique for me, even the STI looks like someone slapped parts on from auto zone oversize wing and hood scoop, four door, grocery getter. Not to disrespect it both the STI and your WRX will out perform my GTA I just find the GTA a better looking car that will only get better with time.

The AWD Subaru had the huge stock advantage there due to traction, which could be fixed fairly easy. Look at the trap speeds the Subaru was crossing a hair over 100 with deadly 60 ft times, the Cobra trapped at 109.

it's hard to say for some reason cars around here go a lot slower? don't know why but, they do. I always see "stock" car run from .5-1.0 slower around here than the rest of the us?
I have run a couple sti wrx's and killed them but, my car is not stock so??
