damn it if the L98 had a T5 it would beat the 302 easily, stock vs stock that is.. The 350 is more beefier on TQ then a 302 but the HP is bout the same

I know that back about 7-8 years ago when I had a bone stock 5spd 88 LX hatch I raced a 88 LX notch auto and it was pretty close actually. I did beat the other car, but not by much. My 88 LX was a stripper model too, no power anything, no tilt, no A/C, you name it. I also raced a stock L98 88 IROC with my LX and beat it, actually by a little more than the 88 LX auto.
My 89 LX auto was slow, but it had 2.73 gears and stuff..15.54@92 stock. It would have gotten murdered by a stock L98 for sure. It was a dog off the line. Oddly, that stock 88 LX notch auto was pretty quick off the line..much quicker than my 89 LX since it held with my 88 5spd and I can drive pretty good.
But "most" AOD 5.0s are not that quick stock. Some run in the 14's though stock, especially if they have the optional 3.27 gears like my 93 has. My friends stock 93 GT with 3.27's ran 14.88@96.

thanks for the info im probably gonna look for a formula 350 for sale and see how it goes. does anybody know if the formula is in the same price bracket in insurance as a RS because i had a rs before and insurance wasnt that bad. i was hopeing since the trans am is the higher model that i would get a break on the price as i did since i had a rs not a z28

The Formula, GTA and Z are all going to be about the same insurance wise. The Pontiacs possibly more. Also, you may want to look for a 90-92 L98 car. They're the quicker ones.

Ya, I've seen alot of bad bowties put a good beatdown on alot of so-called "hyped" 5.0's. Overrated.
Ford's new slogan - "Built for the road ahead..." beats
"Found on road dead......"
LOL.

Ehh call them over rated, mine went 15s, with an auto, 2.73 gears and at some decent elevation!
Anyone running 15s or 16s in a new GT is a bad driver, end of story, they are low 14 high 13 second cars.
I like having my over rated car, people think it will run 13s at best... hehehe!

I raced the GT in the pic earlier this year at the strip, he ran a 14.14 at 98 mph I think. My car was running 13.50's at 101-103 that night.

I think I have seen this post before.........
For the original ? I think the race would be close only if it was a 5 speed. Alot of it has to do with how well you can drive your car.

I ran 13.9 in my 2003GT bone stock. I don't think a 'stock' L98 would match that these days
Oh and all those Mustangs you see at the track running 15's and 16's are what we like to call ****ty drivers. I've had bad runs and missed shifts in my GT and still managed 14.4-14.6's. I always got a chuckle while at the track when other guys with stock 99+ GT's came up to me and asked me why i was running almost a full second faster.
