Me VS. MR2 Turbo
I got a buddy at work who drives a 93'ish MR2 turbo. I am led to beleive that it is pretty quick but im not sure what it is capable of. Anyways, i have been trying to get him to race me for a while. Its pretty much stock, he keeps saying, "wait till i get a few things done to it" If i beat him i will be suprised, what do you guys think?

What are these cars capable of? He told me that he dynoed at 180 hp at the wheels and about the same torque, and he said that the car weights 3300 pounds, which i find kind of odd. however he hasnt run it at the track yet.

Raced a friend with a '93 MR2 turbo 5 speed about 7 years ago when I had the 305 tpi 5 speed (with major "bolt-ons" only). He kept badmouthing the roc one night until I decided to find out.
Blew him outta the hole really bad he was nowhere to be seen.
If you can get a jump on him chances are he will make a good gain on you top end (that's if he can drive). I really don't think he needs to "do" anything to his car to give you a good run, if not take you. I wouldn't run him from a roll above 60 or so (at least not with your car

Cool, well then you already have the mental advantage
Well then when you race him make sure you get a good jump on him. I may have scared my buddy off when I blew him outta the whole he completely gave up. I'm sure those MR2's can boogie up top! Have fun and play safe

Del91_305 - Heres some more info for you:-
From http://www.btinternet.com/~netsurf/mr2t/mr2tfaq.html
"For Japanese specification cars output on 98 or 100 RON fuel is- 1989-94 : 225 ps (~220bhp), 1994-on: 245 ps (~241bhp).
Although the 90-94 model engines all share the same power output, the 92-94 models had a number of modifications to the internals of the engine including larger exhaust valves and ports, and an improved stud pattern for the exhaust manifold to prevent warping which was a problem with the 90-92 cars. All 90-94 cars were turbocharged using a Ceramic CT-26 turbo at a factory boost pressure of 10psi.
The engine in the 94+ models was extensively revised with larger fuel injectors, lower cylinder compression ratios, a new CT-20 turbo now running at 13psi and a new ECU. As a result Toyota were able to extract a 20 further bhp from the 94+ engine.
For US specification cars output is- 1990-on 200 bhp. "

Kerb weight:- 1281 kg / 2824 lbs
Best of luck with the race. Let us know in this thread how it goes.

I was talking to him the other day again about his car. he said that out of the factory it put out about 9-10 lbs boost, and that he has increased it to 12-13 lbs boost. I actually got him to take me for a ride in his car, but he didnt really get on it that much, however, i could tell that it had potential. Im also trying to get him to run my buddys stock LT1 M6.
