TexasLT1 vs. pasky vs. calereeves

For the past few days pasky and I have been doing a CC306 cam swap on his car. His mods are now:

'95 LT1
TB airfoil
CC306
Proform 1.6 rockers
Cloyes Double Roller timing set
CVR electric water pump
SLP 1-5/8" headers
T-56 with 3.42 gears

I've got:
'95 LT1
LT4 heads, Hotcam, Intake
30# injectors
52 mm TB with airfoil
Proform 1.6 rockers
Hedman 1-5/8" headers with custom 2-1/2" y-pipe and Mccord 3" electric cutout
T-5 with 3.42 gears
Nittos

calereeves has a '78 Trans Am with a BBC 462 swap, TH400 with 3500 stall, 3.73 gears, custom 3" true duals. Best run before was a 12.1 @ 113 but we think the previous convertor was ballooned since the first run.

First race:
-TexasLT1 vs pasky
Started from a dead stop with my cutout closed, I hooked, pasky didn't and I pulled about 2 lengths on him through first gear. As we hit second he began pulling up on me. By the time we shut it down at about the 1000' mark he was at my door and very slowly pulling on me.
Victor: TexasLT1

Second race:
-TexasLT1 vs pasky
Due to pasky's severe traction problems, we started from a 15 mph roll. I opened my cutout this time as we decided to go for the full 1/4 mile. At the launch, I jumped at least a full length on him, but through second gear he pulled back up on me. From the start of third gear and all the way to the top of fourth gear, he stayed glued to my door and never moved. We topped out at 130 and he was still at my door. At that point we shut it down.
Victor: neither, I won the race, but my transmission was stuck in 4th gear until I pulled over, shut the car down, and let it cool down for a minute. I'm still having problems with it getting stuck in 4th just driving around.

Third race:
-pasky vs calereeves
After dynoing only 325 at the wheels on Wednesday, calereeves found out that his torque convertor that was supposed to be a 4000 stall had totally ballooned and had become about a 6000 stall. After getting it rebuilt as a 3500, the car feels totally different and pulls much harder. Starting at a 25 roll, the two cars were side-by-side through first gear. However, it quickly ended when calereeves hit second gear. As pasky shifted into 3rd gear, calereeves had about 6 lengths on him and was pulling hard. We believe his previous best of 12.1 was also on the ballooned convertor, so we are anxious to get new times. With slicks and skinnies, we're very confident it is an 11 second car.
Victor: calereeves by a LOT

Video of races 2 and 3 will be posted in the next few days

Despite my tranny problems, it turned out to be a very fun night. As the saying goes, "the **** talking stops when the gas pedal drops." Better luck next time pasky

Shouldn't your car be faster than pasky's given your respective engines?

Not when you got a gigantic cam like I do. Mine also seems to be one hell of a strong motor. The electric waterpump frees up 10 rwhp. Th cam is gigantic and makes power all the way to 6500 rpm and only drops 7hp at 6800.

Another factor is the T-56 first gear ratio. Its not as steep as the T-5's gear ratio. For me its like having 3.23's in a normal t-5. It was still a lot of fun. That was one hell of a race the second time.

Sounds like a nice setup, I guess stock LT1 heads can really scream with the right cam.

If I remember right its .510/.540 lift, 230/244 duration on either a 110 or 112 LSA (cant remember which).

Even with the LT4 setup on the other LT1 I would have thought the CC306 car would have pulled ahead on the top end for sure...

How's the T5 doing with that kind of power and DRs?

I do pull over him up top, I begin to walk away from him, I still have 25# injectors on and my lifter on my #7 cylinder is collapsing. But im not gonna make an excuse, I chose to race with what I had. Next mods im going to do is an electric cut out and 30# injectors.

Simply put, incredible. I have beat the absolute **** out of my car. After this race was the first time I've ever had problems with the transmission, and I've been racing on drag radials for almost a year now. At the track I was doing 4K clutch dumps on the launch and shifting hard at 6100, only complaints I ever got out of the transmission was a slight grind going into 2nd.

hey pasky, get some 3.73's or 4.10's with that t-56 and a good sticky set of drag radials and I bet Texas Lt1 won't like the rematch.

That will definatley help, what I really need right now is 30# injectors and when I get a cutout it should be a interesting race.

No clue, but his hp curve is so fricken flat. It starts at like 317 and goes to 325. That was a mustang dyno. He has tons of torque with that big block but that hp is so ridiculous. I don't think he dynoed with the 3500 stall. Not sure. He took me for a ride while I was up there and wow....I want a big block in a thirdgen now.

heh, you could say that. It started at 321, went up to 325. Alot of that had to do with the convertor, but it is still a rediculously flat power curve, which explains why it doesn't have the same seat of the pants feel as my car, similar to the way LS1's feel.

That was indeed a badass T/A, as soon as I saw him pulling into the parking lot I was walking towards it. If you went to the Christmas meet last year my brother's car was the then-white '78 T/A that was parked on the end. Now its metallic silver with a pearl blue Air Force hood bird and a BBC 462 under the hood with Cragar wheels. I think he was out with his girlfriend Saturday night since she was going back to school yesterday, so he didn't go to the meet. I didn't get a chance to talk to the guy that had the black one, but I told my brother about the car and he thinks he knows who it is; supposedly has a pretty mean 427 under the hood.

That would have been cool if you did know the guy I want to see that car at one of our meets. And no I didnt see your brothers car before because this last meet was the first one Ive attended after trying to make two others and missing them. But I plan on attending plenty more and hopefully doing the group dyno thing. Man we need to all head out to the track for the next meet so we can show everyone some real thirgens instead the slow a$$ stereotypes everyone is used to seeing.

FINALLY got the videos of the races. Quality is down a little as it was sort of foggy that night, plus the quality from a digital camera just isn't that great, but you get the idea. Also, I'd turn the volume up on the first one definitely

TexasLT1 vs pasky

pasky vs calereeves

From now on I hope to get better video, as I wasn't too impressed with how these turned out, plus cameraman that can actually hold it steady

lol, if I would have thought fast enough, I would have just put the camera on the tripod between my seats, but it was a spur-of-the-moment thing. and I can do my own detailing
