88 gta vs worked 89 lx hatch

think an 88 gta 350tpi, K&N, airfoil, headers, high flow cat, 3" banks exhaust, shift kit could beat an 89 lx hatchback with high comp pistons, B-cam, long tubes and a 5 speed?

Im not too familiar with the B cam, I know Im going with the E-303 cam here soon. How does it compare? If its anything like the e-303 cam, thenwow, you dont have a chance. Then again if he's running stock gears, 2.73's, he's killnig his mods. I figure he's running mid to high 13's and you are running low 14's-high 13's maybe. If he has any gear ratio higher than a 3.42, you are toast, because he'll be down into the mid to low 13's most likely.

So no, you wont beat him but then again its a drivers race, you have to know how to drive the 5.0 5 speeds and shift at the right time in order to make them run their best.

By the way, here's a pic of the "new" GT500. Nice looking car, but I get the impression it's just cheaply put together. At the latest autoshow I had a chance to sit in a new stang and although I was impressed by the design, it didn't feel too good. I also had more than one person tell me the same thing.

the b-cam has more duration and less lift, a bit more aggressive for shifting the torque upward for more RPM and more ponies

the e-cam is a "decent" street cam, but much more of a blower friendly cam than anything else

i concur, you'll lose, but not by more than 1 buslength

even 3.73's wont help you thatm uch. Now if he puts 3.73's in, itsl ike he attached a rocket to his car. Dont ever doubt for one second the power of a 5.0 Mustang. You may crack on them cause they are stangs but they have large potential from the factory, much more than most ThirdGens. You can slap bolt ons on and hit 12's. They are strong motors that take to mods well and are quite cheap and easy to build. You can pul lup to one and it can be a 14 second stocker like mine or a 12 second runner like 25th's. The 5.0 is the only motor out there that beats the SBC in bang for the buck to be truthful.

BTW, asm uch as i love my Camaro, it doesnt have the potential my Stang does period...and the Stang is so much fun to drive and the chicks seem to love it much more than my ThirdGen

I just bought an 88 gt with a 5 speed and it is much quiker than my t/a was,not to mention more fun to drive.Probably because it is shorter, lighter, and easier to throw around.I'm not saying I didn't like my t/a,I loved it but I've always had a soft spot for 87-93 fox body mustangs.I'll buy another thirdgen sooner or later.

The fox body 5.0s are light, rev great, and make good power from the factory. With a little more power, and better traction (these cars have strong trannies and rears as well) 12s are not a huge deal. Now when it comes to braking and handeling and Fbody has it all over the 5.0s, but the Mustangs were great cars for the 1/4 mile!

I had wanted to get a late eighties Mustang (LX 5.0), befoe, they look and sound mean, but I don't live my life 1/4 mile at a time - I'd rather have good handling and take a small hit in the power category.
