beat an SRT-4 and a Mustang, again
went down to Lake Jackson last night. Pull up, grab my fold-up chair, and sit down to start eating my Sonic burger when a buddy of mine says he has a race for me. He points to a red SRT-4 back behind a few cars. I tell him I'll take him, but not really interested at the moment. I finish my burger and we all BS some when this guy Tim who has a white, bolt-on 99 Mustang starts talking to the SRT-4 guy and they agree to race.
See this post about my previous encounter with Tim.
After they both decide to go, I figure I'll follow them out and see how things turn out, as I've been wanting to race an SRT-4 since they came out. We head out and I end up behind the neon. Both races they go from a dig.
First race, they both get decent launches and stay side-by-side until 3rd when the Mustang starts pulling ahead a little. When I hit 3rd I have to backpedal a little to keep from running into the back of the Neon, so I just ease into it and watch. Mustang wins by a length at best.
Second race, Neon guy launches a little higher and the car disappears into a cloud of tire smoke. Tim gets a good launch and jumps out about 2 lengths. By this time I'm near the top of 2nd and about to rearend the Neon again when I see a big enough space between the Neon and another Mustang that came out to watch for me to jump over into the other lane. I slide on over, pass the Neon, and start pulling on the Mustang, but he's a good 3-4 lengths ahead of me and I only pull up about 2 on him before we shut down.
Me and Tim turn around and we go again for the fun of it. I launch easy and granny-shift it the entire way as I'm worried about my driveshaft and I don't have my Autometer in the car right now, so I'm guessing I was shifting out at about 5900-6000. Anyway, I jump out about a half length on him from the launch, then pull out to about 2-3 lengths before we shut it down again.
*edit: turns out the Neon was stock turbo & intercooler with some bolt-ons. He didn't get real detailed. Mustang is pretty much full bolt-on with 4.10's and Nittos.
Overall, fun night. Can't wait till I get a decent rear-end and a good driveshaft. Then its no-holds barred.

Sounds like you guys are having some fun down there. I go to school at Texas A&M at galveston and one of these semesters I'll have to bring down my Vette. I was wondering where I can go to get some street action around there. Nothing goes on in galveston so I didnt want to mess with dragging the vette down from Chicago and finding a safe spot to store it and all.
yeah Galveston theres usually not a whole lot that I know of that goes on there. But if you go up I-45 about 30 minutes, you can find all the shows and racing (usually) you could want. Baybrook area usually has a lot of stuff going on on Friday and Saturday nights. They used to anyway, not real sure it they do now.
Firebat - thanks for the compliments on the guide, now that I'm home I plan on actually completing it like I originally intended.
