Astro vs camaro?

I just got off work and was heading home, and after 8 hours of working in the back I had to get some movement!

Wasn't a serious thing...
At a stop light a camaro (I'd say 86 or something) pulled up next to my 1985 Astro, he was about half a hoods length ahead of me and I wanted to leave him in the dust, just because. I pushed it a little and got about half a car lengths ahead, and I heard him rev up about then and got even with my bumper, He was playing back now, I pushed the pedal a tad bit further and pulled about a foot ahead, and he did the same and before he could get even with me I slamed it a past half way down and made a hell of a lot of noise, and drowned out his car entirely so I don't know how much he was revving then. I scooted about two car lengths ahead of him and leveled off just above the speed limit and looked back in my mirror too see him sitting back there, feeling pretty smug. There was a truck in front of me quite a few car lengths ahead. He flew past me a few seconds later, I was already above the speed limit and traffic in front of me so I didn't try and stomp the pedal again. The truck turned off and I sped up to catch the camaro. He turned off to go to sonic, I passed him while he was slowing for the turn and pulsating the pedal making the beastly van lurch back and forth, he flashed his highbeams and looked like he revved up and went around the corner pretty fast.

The van is a 4.6 L (I think) V6 Carburator, all stock, except the skull shifter my dad made, and the bullet hole in the driver side (long story)

My van is pretty weak, I doubt he was really trying, I think a old camaro(sounded like a v6) can beat an Astro. But nice to know it's easy to get a little action around here with little effort.

So, think the Astro really had a chancE?

Your van has a low output carbed 4.3 V6. You must have run a camaro with a 2.8.

Race of the Century

Well Actually I orginally was going to tell about the more '''intense'' action I had with a 1998 volkswagon Jetta, but after I posted this topic I read the rules. I saw the jetta a few stop lights further down after the camaro.
The camaro was in pretty bad shape, it was dark but I could see large rust spots and taped up tail light on the passenger side. I'm pretty sure it was a V6 though... Wasn't a z-28, looked like an rs, anyway, just a really cheap 80's camaro... Maybe it wasn't an 86, I didn't talk to the person driving... It didn't have vents on the hood, it was gray with black ground effects and a red line seperating the two. My van could drowned out the sound of his engine easy.

The van is something my dad bought in 1988 when he lost his 69 camaro in a vandal's fire, he had no desire to go fast after that so it remained stock, it has nice shifting, for fun anyway, when ever it shifts when you're being hard on the throttle it spins the tires pretty good, strongest in the shift from 1st to second. Is this normal for this type of van? or has something been out of adjustment all these years causing it to burn the tires in shifting?

Anyway, I'm somewhat familar with the Iroc-z camaros, and know most of the engine specs for them, but I never studied up on the RS camaros, so All i can say for sure is it was a third generation camaro of some sort.

No, I didn't do a fly by, he sped up and passed me after I leveled off, he didn't fly by either, I had to slow up for traffic, then he turned off at a burger place and I passed him while he was in the turn lane.

unless youre standing right at the exhaust tip on an Astro, it just sounds like massive amounts of air moving....that is the only reason sound would be drowned out

I personally have never beaten any camaro in my Astro-nor tried to, but a few bouts against Jetta's, Eclipse RS's, and some base Civics have turned in my favor-yea i know its not high end but give me a break, my van has 274K on it with one rebuild and stock everything but tires and the normal wear and tear items.

and its normal for astros to shift like that, but they do bog down like a **** in second, gets kinda hairy when its wet though.

mines an 87 by the way

I'm sorry but this is probably the stupidest thing I've read in the kills section. You're driving an astro van, and you aren't a soccor mom trying to get timmy to practice. What in the hell are you doing racing.

BWAHAHAHAHA!! Its a good thing he didn't post the Jetta/Astro story. I dont think the board is ready for that much excitement about him beating some poor high school girl.
