granted these damn imports are getting turboed and things like that.. but seriously. these cars are running 210 hp stock...
my car stock was....150hp with 240lbs
ive done my share of cheep tricks to it to cause "more power"
so has my buddy however he has bought a little bigger turbo..
i will tell my little additions and sneaky cheep tricks i soppose cause well lets face it they are the basics wich we all should all know
Headers, duals 2 1/4 inch pipes
Cut off a/c unit
smog emmisions deleated including belt to smog pump.
removal of muffler
k&n air filter
Accel plug wires
so instead of running 4 total belts im running 2
which per belt is roughly 5% hp gain.. isnt much but hell its cheep
so im running about 180 hp to maybe 200 if im lucky with about 300lbs to 320 lbs
he with the bigger turbo, oh 220 its nothing too big, but however he says this thing is fast.. i dont believe it, every one knows the reason why people make V-8's its to put the damn I-4 in thier place. so anyways. back to what i was saying. what do y'all think im gonna take him or am i gonna look silly?

I think your gonna get killed! I ran a stock GST when I had a 305 TPI with more hp than you. It was a pretty even race but I could tell when we got into higher speeds that the GST was slowly pulling away.
An to add to that he's got a turbo upgrade! You will lose BADLY!

So you basically have a full exhaust, some stuff deleted from the engine bay and a filter. Sorry dude but you aren't making 200 hp. The LG4 was anemic and no amount of bolt-ons is going to give you 50 hp. If your engine is still making the same amount of power it was when it was bone stock (I.E. wear hasn't decreased it's power output any) I'd guess you at 175 tops. Flywheel HP. A boosted Eclipse with a properly tuned larger than stock turbo is going to walk all over you. You might have a slight chance from a dig since he's FWD.

I raced my buddies 99 eclipse turbo and he had a ton of bolt ons and **** and i was in my 79 trans am. my T/A just has headers exhaust k&n and a gear. my motor is rated at 185hp at the flywheel and i ****ed his car up bad. and in my opinion my trans am is slow as ****

im not saying i was going to smoke the living hell out of him i never said that. for one. i know my car isnt the fastest never said it was fast. for two, i realize its a bigger turbo, however when he talked to me he said it was just a tad bigger than OEM. i know these machines that they are building are fast, hell i lost to a 91 Eclipse GS-X. i do realize how quick they are so i appologise if i made my self seem like a ignorant bastard, but it was a question oh to qoute my buddy, the kid doesnt know how to drive the car. i dont know, i will post the results tho, and if i win, stu i want a complete appology from you.

Listen guy, you gotta understand that imports can be fast, and that your car isn't fast. Once you understand that, you're good to go. Now, there are LOTS of things you can do to make your car faster, and there are guys here hitting low 13s on 305s. mw66nova comes to mind.
My advice is to learn about your car, and then ask questions on certain subjects you don't understand. Don't just randomly post a thread about how imports suck. That's asking to get bashed in, even by some of the most die hard of GM owners (I've personally never owned anything but a V8 powered GM car).
Check out the Tech/General engine section, and the FAQ boards. You'll learn alot. There's also a few good tech articles linked on the main page.
And thanks to Shifty for leaving this open for so long, so that we may educate the young one

If this kid truly has upgraded his turbo and whatnot, you will get totally destroyed.
If he's basically stock (which I suspect he is), he's basically got a high 14 second car, and you've got maybe a high 15 second car at best. It would be awesome if you won, but I really don't see it happening without him having problems launching or something. If he's got an auto, that will help make it close, but I still don't see you winning if you're both competent drivers.
The 4 possible routes to victory without you helping your anemic motor or sabotaging his slightly less anemic motor:
1. He really has a GS and simply purchased GS-T badging for his car, which has happened before.
2. You really have an L-69 305 instead of an LG4 305, in which case you could be alright with your mods and have a chance of snatching victory from him, depending on how well you've got your timing and carb dialed in. I've seen an auto LB9 with bolt ons, gears and sticky tires put 2 or 3 cars on a 90s 5 speed GS-T before, so I'd say an L69 with bolt ons and an auto should have a chance.

I'm not trying to call you stupid or anything because you may already be very mechanically inclined, but try to read around on the site and get educated on this stuff. Lots of good info about your car and people are pretty cool when you're reasonable about things.
And don't see things as "any V8 needs at least a 50 shot to take a GS-T Eclipse". It's just a matter of you having a really really bad V8 with the LG4 305.

I think we should give this kid a chance personally. I mean, let's take a look at his points, all of them great by the way.
- He's only 18. How can you expect an 18 year-old to know anything about anything? He's clearly not old enough to take any responsibility for what he does or says.
- He's chased his friends on several occasions up 135 mph.
We all know that it takes an extrodinary amount of skill, percision, and nerves of steel to handle a car at that speed. Not to mention magic, since I doubt his car can even come close to that number.

- He's sorry. He knows that he sounded stupid, so by admitting so, he has lifted all meaning of any previously made statements. In fact, I don't even remember them, do you?

in the future try to keep it under 110 and try to hit the track as much as possible the track is a much better environment for racing
i am not against street racing but when you street race be smart about it don't do it in town, keep the speeds under 110, and when a clear victor is determined let out of the throttle

ok so you ahve some VERY basic mods and he has well a larger turbo even if it is just a little larger still can make quite a difference.
so his low 15's have prolly turned into a little better then that and you just might if your a good driver pull of a mid 15...
