power alone isnt a ET factor. gears and tires and weight is a big deal of it.
300hp STI's do bottom 13's easy with a good launch. they cut 1.7-1.8's on the 60 foots on street tires. AWD. but they only trap 100-103mph from what i seen on my track and over at wrxfanatics.
a LT1 will trap near 100mph bone stock properly driven. so will a 99-04 GT stang.... but they only go high 13's at best cuz they dont have the traction advantage. only cuttin 1.8-2.0's.
add drag radials and that goes to 1.6-1.8 range on the 60's and you'll see mid lower 13's.
mid 13's doesnt really need a whole lot of power. mainly just launch/traction. 300hp will carry a 3500lb car a long way with traction and gearing.
i'd say 350hp is a minimum to catch a high 12 on good tires. 400hp on crank should be able to touch mid 12's in a fbody with good tires/launch. LS1 cars can crack high 12's on drag radials bone stock. they weigh in at 3400-3600lbs depends on options. they dyno 300whp, or around 350 crank.

So if I am making 300-310 at the crank. Should I get a better chip burnt as you said before? Anyway that will get me closer to 320?

Hmm I'd have to say it's between 280 and 290 at the crank. I can't see 300 hp yet. DEFINETLY get a custom chip. You'll see good gains throughout the power band, giving you more power under the curve and probably a better peak of about 10 hp or so.
I feel the need to point out that ETs don't mean jack **** in determining a cars power. Trap speeds do. He traps 99, which in his car is exactly what he should be doing. My LT1 trapped 100 with just a catback, otherwise bone stock. It had 305ish fwhp and 3.23s through an auto.
And yes I laugh at the guys in evos that think their **** is hot stock.. but all they trap is a 101
Watch out if they're modded though

Im not sure. I think I am going to have it re-dynoed a few more times on different machines since they all vary about 8 percent as Shifty already said. Geeze this would make for a good poll lol

If you have a laptop you can datalog your car and see what is happening. It will give you a good feel for what the motor is doing and or what it needs. This will require you to learn though. Check out the DIY PROM board for more info in regards to DIY chip work.

I definitly need to learn more for my next car. When I get alittle older I want to get an ls1 and juice the hell out of it. As of now I am just going to work with what i got. I am definitly going to look into the chip. Also a 2800 stall, and a better cam. Those mods alone should make a good difference. Wheather I got 290 or 310 it doesnt matter cause once I get into the engine its going to go way up.

You need to call up someone like Ed Wright and get a custom chip. It would do wonders for performance. I've seen claims on this forum of nearly 15 horsepower on even stock engines! Also, about now you should really invest in a wideband 02 sensor to monitor you fuel mixture and protect the motor you have invested into so heavily As for the cam? Make sure it will work with your stock heads, a good rule of thumb is nothing over .480/.480 lift for a sbc. Of course you can stick whatever cam you would like in there if the heads are machined and work with tpi ect. Cam, tune and workin on the 60 ft could net you some high 12's.

You'll probably be happy with something like the XR264HR, it's a 212/218 @ .50 on a 110. Will have a low powerband (comp says 1200-5200) and will work with your gears and converter. Should have decent mileage and a slight lope (probably not really noticeable unless you're really paying attention).

haha well i did cut a few 1.88-1.93 60 foots on street tires which isnt bad. but still, my ET's could be better given the trap speed.
i figured a 1.88 would allow me to hit 13.7's
i'm most definately gettin it dyno'd this spring/summer
i have to know whats goin on here.
and hopefully, i'll get some afpr dyno numbers... cuz i might be buying one and i'll test it at stock 42psi and 50 psi.

Have it dynoed to get a baseline. It seems to me like you do not have the stock cam beacuse I have never seen a stock L98 trap as high as your car.

i've always felt your car was a bit of a factory freak orr. it traps quite a bit higher than it should. or maybe someone has been in the motor?

around there. I have a feeling they can go 12.9s with some real effort and good air.

the tranny was stock and blew at 143K miles or so. the car was repainted like 8 years ago. and as far as i know, its bone stock in the motor too. only driven highway miles, then there was a period of a few years where the car only put on 4K miles so it was stored awhile. no history that i know of a rebuilt motor. i did have the original owner contact info but i got no response when i sent him a email/letter.. i guess he moved? cuz the car was brought up by a private dealer to resale up here. he sells some cars and trucks to make some profit to fund his project cars
i'll definately like to get a baseline dyno as she sits and then crank up the fuel pressure to see if that does anything, and only if its running lean up top. i think it will put down 230-240 at the wheels

I'm not trying to argue, because i'm no expert when it comes to drag racing. But dosent trap speed only represent horsepower? Torque is important in drag racing too. Which would be represented in the ET correct?
I've seen two cars consistently run the same ET's, but different traps. The one with the higher trap is making more horsepower, but technically isn't any faster.

haha on slicks i'm thinkin it might be possible in the cold weather. pretty much full weight too!
i would say torque and hp play a roll in trap speeds. but mostly hp.
torque is definately a role in ET.. its a big part of the 1/8 mile and your short times 60 foot 330foots. torque accelerates the car off the line and low end, and hp carries the acceleration as rpms go up.
thats one reason why a 305 TPI making 230rwhp and 290rwtq will run slower than a 230rwhp 350 TPI car making 360rwtq or w/e

I am a big fan of the LSX motors. And I totally see where you are coming from there. But what about the fast Hondas? I’ve seen some dyno graphs where they make 400 hp, and only 120 ft lbs of torque.
The reason I was asking about the ET and trap, is because in my area, a big import vs domestic thing is starting to escalate. And there were two cars (import and domestic) that ran practically the same ET, but the Hondas trap was quite a bit higher. And all the import guys were saying was “who cares, the trap isn’t there”. But is it correct to say “technically, one is not faster then the other”, due to running the same Ets? The domestic is in the 10's, but has some sticky tires, and a large stall (pulling 1.6's), giving him a nice Et.

HP = (torque*rpm)/5252
No IC engine can escape this. So that Honda would have had to be turning crazy RPM's and be way past its peak toqure. HP is the amount of torque produced over time. You want more of both. If that Honda made that 400hp at 7000 rpm than it would have had to make 300lb ft at that same RPM point. If it made it at 8000 rpm than it would have made 262. You can see how it is drastically dependent on RPM.

A higher trapping car will beat a slower trapping one on the highway, or a longer street race. In the 1/4 the slower car has a better chance, because they both have to move those first 60 feet, and that's 80% of the race right there.
If the domestic and the import reach the end of the 1/4 at the same time, however the import is trapping higher, the import WILL pass the domestic in a matter of moments if they kept going.
The trap speed is the best way imo to determine how much power (tq and hp) your car has, how it will perform from a roll or a longer than 1/4 race and it's potential to E.T.
The E.T. is simply a measure of how well your car is setup, how good of a driver you are, and lastely how powerful your car is.

roll racers are trap speed racers. traction advantages are eliminated in roll races, so its all power to weight and gearing. ET's dont play a factor. i know of high 10 second cars that trap 120-125mph loose to mid 11 second cars with traps in the high 120's.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my post guys. I feel a bit more educated now.
Now I can join in on the Et conversations and know I won't make an *** out of myself.
Thanks again guys.

can he drive at all? if he can, you might want to delay your race till you get some more stuff done
i had a bone stock 93' 6speed Vette that i got to run 13.32 at 107.63mph in good air at a good track. my 60ft was in the mid 2.1 range
my car dynoed 266rwhp and 306rwtq, which is around 312 crank hp and 360 crank tq. looks like the LS1 wasnt the only motor GM underrated
fastest ive ever heard of a bone stock LT1 6speed Vette was Mr. Mojos on www.corvetteforum.com. his 95' coupe went 13.0 at 108mph (powershifted).
as stated before, DO NOT race this guy from a roll. my 93' would run door handle to door handle with my brothers stock 00' 6speed Z28 from a 30mph roll all the way through 4th gear

Yes he can. He actually just got an 04 Z06 car with 400 hp. Hmm Should I try to match that. HAHAHAHAHAHA That would be like me racing a stock lg4 car.

I set it up like this and got 306.
245 is 80% of ?
So 245 times 100 divided by 80 equals 306.

Raced the 95 LT1 Vette this morning.
Well the track opened up a few days ago. So I decided i should get down there beacuse I finally got some traction this time. The best run was a 13.471at 100.54. Not too bad. I was very happy that i finally broke the 100 mark.
This morning I met up with my buddy with the Corvette. We agreed not to bet for money, since it was orginally going to be a "friendly" bet. So we made it so the loser has to do a couple of burn outs lol.
So we lined up for the first race, and decided to use the "honk" system. He agreed to honk since we both knew he had the quicker car. On the third honk we were off. I got a better launch than him out of the hole and pulled ahead. By 50 mph I had about 1/2 car length on him, we continued to pull upwards of 70 mph. By this time the front of his car was right at my door. I held this lead up until 80 where we had to slow down.
Ohhh boy someone is maaad.
Next run we both slow down to 40 mph. He honks on three and we are off. He gets a good jump on me. By 65-70 hes already got a soild 2 car lengths and seems to be pulling.
. We shut down at around 90-95 with him about 3 car lenghts ahead. DAMIT!
Now we decide to try it once again from a stop. We both came out of the hole fairly even this time, with me slightly ahead. By the time 50 came around i had him by about a car lenght maybe a little less. At around 70-75 he began to pull. We shut down at around 90-95. He had 1 car length on me.
One more time I said.
This time I nailed the launch with very little spin at all,and got the jump. 30 mph came with me ahead by less than 1/2 car length.45-50 I had the slighest bit on him, and continued to hold the lead. I looked back very quickly at around 70 and he was RIGHT there at my door. We shut down at around 90-95 with be pulling off a CLOSE one.
It seemed the faster we went the harder his car would pull. Overall I had alot of fun racing that car lol. In the end we decided to both do burnouts and call it a day.
