84 z28 VS 98 mustang GT
Just wondering what you guys would figure for this one...
84 Z28 (my brown turd) VS a 1997 mustang GT (manual, bone stock except for exhaust)
Im thinking hes got me untill i get my new motor together...

Well looking at your mods I don't think you would have a problem with the GT if its stock. Both cars weigh about the same yours might even be less.

I know I could run DEAD EVEN with a 98 4.6L V8 5spd Mustang GT with my old 350 with 130k on it. My only mods were Intake, carb, headers, dumps off the back of the headers.

You just said in your car domain you are putting down 300 RWHP. You should have absolutely no problem taking down a GT. Actually you could probably start going after some stockish LS1s.
You have over 100 RWHP over the mustang and MAYBe even a weight advantage.

What mods do you have to your 305 and is it an L69 and or Lg4? An L69 should beat a stockish '97 GT, a LG4 will lose.

I wouldn't bank any money on your actually putting down 300rwhp, but you should darn well be putting down more than the 98 GT that will be around 180-190 rwhp at best w/ just a catback.
Those GTs are pretty slow but I don't see a stock L69 or a mild mod LG4 taking one out either everything being equal, unless maybe it was an auto GT... Neither of those will touch even the measely 180 rwhp... I suppose w/ the 3.73s maybe the L69 has a fair shot...

I grenaded my motor the other night
And yes i was being a bit generous with "300rwhp"!

Hey, that looks just like my old Z28. Dark Briar brown or whatever color it was, ugly as hell. I painted mine S10 brown and it looked great...at least for brown.
Sorry to hear about the engine. It wouldn't have taken too many mods to beat a GT. I only did a handful of mods to mine back in the '80's and was running high 13s. Mine was a HO 5spd but had everything but posi and the rear windshield wiper, so it was on the heavier side also. Used to knock off IROCs, 5.0s, Vettes, and even the occasionally muscle car
But running 13's on the street back then was actually fairly fast. Now its pretty common place.
Would have been a good run either way.
