84z vs 02 grandam, 86 gm truck, 03 sporttrac

well we had a little fun on saturday night...

Did a little 1/4mile racing and had some fun.

I had the 'ol beater car back together with a junker 350 dang near identicle to the one i grenaded a few weeks back other than higher compression.

First off i raced my buddy in his 86 gm truck, hes got it done up pretty nice with a pretty mild 350, K&N, headers and full 2.5" duals. Hes got coil overs on the rear and traction bars, the truck has been dropped slightly (i believe 2" on front and 1" on rear.

Well anyways we lined up and off we go, right off the line i had him. car hit about 4k rpm in first then all of a sudden rattle rattle bang bang pop pow (started detonationg like crazy) i didnt give 2 ***** about the motor so i just kept my foot into it. After rattling and banging around for a few second it finally decided it was going to run again and then i pass my buddy for the second time and got him by about 3-4 lengths.

He couldnt believe how much i beat him by especially after having that kind of detonation off the line so we lined back up again. This time i slowly rolled into the gas and once again started to detonate but not as bad as the first race, and i just held it to the floor and got him by about 5-6 lengths.

Then my buddy with his '03 sporttrac with a few slight mods, K&N, cold air intake and full exhaust (headers,y-pipe,cats and flomaster catback) pulled up to the line with my buddy in his 86 truck. Surprisingly enough the sporttrac got him by 2 lengths on the first run (buddy in the 86 spun bad on the line) and just barely got 1 length on the second run.

After my buddy was done calling his ol' truck everything in the book i lined up with the '02 grand am gt, its pretty much a stock car with K&N filter and borla exhaust. We were dead even coming off the line until i started detonating and he started to pull, by the time i got the revs back up again i didnt have enough time to catch him and he got me by about 2 lenghts.

All in all we had some good fun that night and needless to say my buddy with the 86 gm truck has started a blown 350 buildup this week!

I still have no clue why this motor was acting up that night. i tried pulling out some timing, disconnecting vac advance, dropped in my old locked out dizzy and it would still knock like all he||. It ran fine WOT before and after that day, maybe i got some real crappy gas or something, or maybe the fairly cold for the time ambient temps (-2*C) had something to do with it...

...So are we supposed to be impressed that you got wasted by a Grand Am? Your car is a complete turd if you got beat by a grand am I dont care how bad you were detonating. I think I would have kept the races you told about to myself to save the embarassment.

Haha, well my temporary motor didnt last long at all...

just going over things under the hood tonight and noticed the rad was low, took 9L to fill it back up. Thats weird because the temp gauges were both at normal levels. So i thought what they hey, ill go for a rip and see how it runs against the Grand Am now. Well it was pulling real hard off the line for once and with 0 detonation then at about 3500RPM in 3rd i heard some knocking (not deto!) and let off. pulled off to the side of the road only to have a nice cloud of blue smoke trailing me and some lovely knocking and rapping coming from the motor.

Oh well, another one bites the dust...
