89 FORMULA 350 VS 05 SAAB 95

OK, i JUST BOUGHT AN 89 Formula 350. it is all stock with the exception of a flowmaster exhaust and the cat has been removed. Well my dad has an 05 Saab 9-5 sedan which is a 5 speed manumatic auto with 250 horses. I KNOW i'D ROAST HIM OFF THE LINE, but when his turbo spools up I might be toast! Any opinions on this race cuz I dont see it happening anytime too soon. Im waitin to get my car sorted out before I go beat the **** out of it.

I had a Saab 9000 Turbo that I had a little bit of work done. It was quick but it still never felt like V8 muscle. I'd say u should eat him off the line and never look back. Especially if he dosen't launch it right. Mine launched good spooled to almost 3 grand but my Iroc still feels a lot better. I say smoke em.

I think you'll lose. Please never drive the Saab, no one wants you to ruin a nice car.

With the way you talk, I wouldn't let you drive my beater Accord.

Why you wouldn't want to drive a car that is ten times more quality, and just plain more cool than your car is a mystery to me, but let's just keep it that way.

Most saab owners won't drive their cars hard. Which is understood, think of the type of typical saab owner and think of why in the hell thy would want to race some kid with a thirdgen.

What did your dad go "nice car son, now you know what you have to do now, RACE!"

IMO saab is the only division in GM that isn't almost exactly like the others, which isn't a bad thing if you like the cars they're putting out. Saab's got a uniquness to them that comes with a higher price tag unfortunately.

sweet car.

your a pile. What does this have anything to do with what country is better? Yeah I agree thirdgen's(for the most part) are cooler, but because certain saab models are slower, does that mean that they are crappier cars? There is more to a car than just acceleration.....nevermind that's crazy talk!

I think Saabs are very beautiful, classy cars, and I love the 9-3 converts.

However:

I only bought my camaro because I was looking towards the muscle-y, vroom-vroom, "I'm 18 and since I cant afford a saab I will instead work my *** off to make an affordable car sound/look cool. AND I wont let my affordable car of choice be a low-rider/***** like every other 18 year old in my city. I'll try to be different...And quite frankly, lowriders/ricers in my city don't look or sound cool, but rather, cheap."

So I guess for my intentions, my camaro satisfies me just fine. I have the car I've always wanted and am doing just what I expected with it.

Of course, if someone casually swaggered up to me (Because anyone rich enough to do what I'm about to say certainly swaggers and not walks) and said hey kid, take my brand new Saab, it's all yours? Then my opinions would abruptly change.

But since that wont happen. Camaro = cooler that Saab.

But dont beat up the Saab...

Just beat it in the race.

I hate when people say, "most ______ owners won't trounce their cars."

The fact is, most DRIVERS won't beat up their car, it has nothing to do with the brand of the car.

This is true. I generalized too much. But I do believe that the average person who spends close to almost 40k on what is a practial/luxury type vehicle (IE sedans) isn't going to shift into redline, do high rpm launches etc. That kind of driving is to be expected more and happens(according to insurance statistics) when the car is something like a mustang or a camaro.

For a daily driver the Saab would be a much nicer choice, however on the weekend the GTA would get alot more play time.

that's not true, I'm just comparing a car that someone said was cr@p to a car that everyone on this board can relate to. It's ignorant for a someone that owns a older car(of any kind) to say that a new 35k+ car is crappy.

Cmon now guys! I dont really give two shiznits about what Stu thinks. I just wanna know what an 05 Saab 9-5 is capable of in a quarter mile. Its seems rather quick-smooth (cuz I've rode in it) But Im tryin to prompt my pops into goin to the strip this weekend. Maybe I can try n hypnotize the old man into goin and beatin the **** outta his pride and joy. You only live once Ya know? Thats why I wont drive anything other than a muscle car.

Tell me that a $40,000 isn't your dad's pride and joy.

The quality of SAAB went WAY down after GM took over. Two guys at my work have been buying SAAB's their whole lives, and drive them till they have 200k+ miles. Now they have an 04 and 05, and they have problems left and right. It's ashame.
