iroc vs. gt

Well I knew it would happen one day. I was on my way to get some dinner and I get off the highway and pull up to the traffic light. Before I even come to a stop there is this guy in a 1991 mustang gt. He is revin' his engine like a mad man, I didn't even look over at him. I was wondering if I should even get into a race, as my trans mount is shot and the tranny smacks the tunnel every time i get on the gas from a stop. Well I am sitting and waiting for the light to go green, one foot on the brake and the other hovering over the gas. The light goes green and I mashed my foot to the floor, both tires break loose, tranny smacks the tunnel. I can hear the mustang looking for traction as well, I am thinking I an gonna lose because my tires keep spinning. I look to my right and don't see the mustang anywhere, I look in my rear view mirror and there he is, about 3 lengths behind me. I smoked him as bad as my tires. So the race is over and I turn into my local Wal-Fart and he pulls in behind me. I parked and put my window down to talk to the guy, he is running a stock 302 with an offroad x-pipe, msd box and what looked like drag radials, I told him he almost had me, he agreed. I was like no way dude, you might have about 270hp give or take a few, and I am pushing about 305hp (or so I was told by the previous owner). I don't know what gears he had, but I got 2:77 gears, not the greatest but they did the trick, and I also have 200,000 miles on my motor with a tranny that slips every now and then. All said, I am very happy I smoked this guy, we talked for about 2 hours, he seems like a cool guy.

What kind of mods do you have for 300+ hp???

Also he needs a driving lesson. On radials with a lot more power than him I can slip the clutch and get the car to hook (2.0s all day long the one and only time I was at the track on street radials). He would be lucky to have 210 at the wheels, but still a good kill!

well what are you waitin for? Changed mine yesterday, $6.25 at advance. all you need are ramps(or jack) and a jack to hold the transmission up, 15 and 13mm socket's and ratchet. Took about 15 minutes. Btw, Nothin like beatin' a Fox body stang, Good kill

I know, but I talk in RWHP numbers, and 210rwhp is about 240-245 flywheel hp. I doubt hes anywhere near 270 at the flywheel.

I agree nothing like taking down a fox body. Thats why when I race at the track thats more or less all I end up racing. Not only that, nothing like beating a car with similar mods. Lets you know it was YOU and what YOU have done that won the race!

I have never had the car dyno'd, but the previous owner told me the top half of the engine was rebuilt and the heads were shaved, i know the factory rating for the 89 350 tpi was 245hp/345tq, i do not know what else was done to the engine, or if the 2.77 gears are correct, they may have been changes out before i got it and im not about to check my rear since i dont know what i am looking for anyway. either way i still beat that mustang. i know my car is not the fastest one around but i am happy winning any race i can.

If you READ what I responded to you would realize I was talking about the Mustang... lets disect here.

So I responded saying the Mustang didnt have 270 flywheel hp, more like 240 tops. Seeeeee I was saying the Mustang didnt have as much as you thought, therefore your story is perfectly believable. Its not too hard to follow and understand what I am saying. I do speak english and formulate my thoughts a lot better than some people here!

Yeah I can't really see the mustang being at 270 fly-wheel HP. Depending on what's done to your car I could probably see 305 fly-wheel. But I'd guess you're probably in the 280 fly-wheel area...if i had to guess.

Horsepower numbers a lot of the time are mis-leading. Weight, Torque, and many other things come into play and no one considers them a lot of the time. A Fox-Body is a lighter car than a third gen camaro(I think) and they actually got manuals unlike the L98 which will make a difference as well.

Here are two great examples of how power isnt the only factor...

Friends 93 LX. Notchback, weighs 3000 lbs with him in it (not gutted, but no AC and he weighs 120). Made 225 rwhp and has been 12.77 @ 105.

Friends 86 LX. Notchback, weighs 3200 or so with him in it (more of a race car but hes 260). Made 300 rwhp and has been 11.99 @ 110.

225 and 300 rwhp are nothing today, but both cars make great use of the power!

Good race, but please replace your trans mount. Sounds like he got excited and dumped the clutch with too many RPMs fed into it. I love watching a thirdgen vs a foxbody, two of my favorite cars.

i am sorry 25th, i should have read your post a lot closer, i would like to have my car dyno'd, maybe at the gm nationals in carlisle this year. i know the guy in the stang told me that 2nd gear is really bad in his car, it grinds going into 2nd.

sorry about the remark to your post.

i am going to replace my trans mount in about 2 weeks. I am on unemployment and have to wait for my next check.

i would like to thank the unemployment people for funding my IROC-Z. I wouldn't be able to put gas in it or fix my few problem i have with it. LOL
