89 L98 vs 04 GT
Heres the line up,
My 89 L98 Camaro with, catback, headers, intake manifold, runners, ported plenum, air foil, modded maf, hypertech chip k&ns, and new injectors [not sure if the new injectors will matter much]
VS
My buddys 04 Mustang GT 5-speed with catback, headers, and k&n's.
We are going to go from a stop, and from a roll. My car ran 13.4 at 100, and in cool weather puts down 245-250rwh. Thanks

It'll be a very close run..........if he's all stock he'll be putting between about 245-255hp and about 290-300ish torque (at peak) at the wheels. He's got a flatter torque curve than you He's weight in at about 3400lbs with a full tank of gas. He's got a 3.27:1 rear gear ratio (again if stock...).
Honestly, Its too close for me to call. your weaknesses will be his strengths and visa versa. Its really about who's a better driver and who launches better.

I'd guess he's at about 240 rwhp. If the IROC is trapping 100, he's probably at about 260 rwhp.

I think you'll have him from a dig, but a roll race will be in his court, new stangs trap higher and the 5-speed maes a difference

I've never seen an IROC trap 98 stock... and they usually make about 215 rwhp bringing them across the traps at around 93-95 mph. 98 mph is auto 2.73 geared LT1 territory lol.
For him to cross the traps at 100 mph in an auto car weighing approx 3500 lbs curb it'll take ~250 rwhp.

i trap around 97-98 in the summertime heat and 99 to near 101 in the cooler fall weather. i only got headers/catback/airbox and 2800 stall which should eat some top end.
stock L98's at best should be around 96mph.
stock GT's at my track on average only run low 14's at 96-98mph. most mustang guys will tell you they mostly run 98mph but i havent seen it for the most part. some say they hit 100mph stock. the best drivers in good conditions in a low option GT stick probly could pull off high 13's at 100. but again, most are close to 97-98 decently driven.
you can beat them from a roll and a dig. dig will be your best bet if you launch on good tire. roll, it will be closer but from 40-45mph roll, you should take the lead all the way to 90ish. it will be a slight lead more than likely. 40-45 is your sweet spot in 2nd gear. it will be close tho... i was trappin about 96-97 one night while my friends more modded L98 was doing 98-99. we ran from a 45 roll and my 2800 stall got me early 1/4 car lead LOL but it stayed that way all the way to about 80 when he pulled back even then stayed that way to 95mph where i shut down.

Hot Rod ran a mid 14 @ 98 with a '89 1LE L98 IROC.
As to the race, a full exhaust '04 Mustang should easily be a mid 13 second car with traction and a decent driver. I'd flip a coin on this one.

I have NEVER seen a stock tpi car trap 98mph. Thats high 13s. Maybe a 92 z28 with barebones options.

It's possible but you'd need some perfect conditions. Low temps, low humidity, sea level and a tail wind would get it there. GMHTP managed a 13.89 in similar conditions with their project A4 2.73 LT1 Z but it was only trapping 98-99. Come to think of it, that car never trapped very high for the mods it had in the end.

I don't remember. Is the 04 GT 260 or 300hp at the flywheel? Make sure you launch good. You have the torque down low.If it is just a 260hp gt I think you should get him.A guy a know with a bullit runs 13.5 with full exhaust and drag radials. My guess is he had about 290-305hp at the flywheel.

04 had 260 hp. Not sure what im making at the fly wheel...proly 290-305 or something in that area. Not much but the torque is probably around 380 at the fly which is normal for a full bolt on tpi engine. I have to go pick my car up from the shop cause it has an intake leak, a bad maf, and baaaad injectors. Then i think im going to hit the track and see if i can pull better numbers since this time everything will be running properly. I think my buddy will be comming up with me with the stang.

13.4 is a great run with 245-250rwhp.If you can get the same times or a tenth faster I would say your in good shape. What 60ft times did you get.

Thats pretty good.I don't see why you wouldn't beat him unless you launch bad.I make 271+rwhp and I smoke my buddy's bullit.Shouldn't be to hard for you to take him.

those are good times for that power. I'm putting down about 300 rwhp and my best is only a 13.4.. of course I also trap 105.5 and have no traction lol

Might be close. A guy I know though that had a 00 GT with x-pipe, catback, cold air, 3.90 gears and Nitto's ran high 12's at 105mph. Most stock GT's..99-04 run low 14's high 13's at 99-101 at my track. The fastest dead stock was a 13.7 that I have heard of at my track.

I havent raced this kid yet... we are going to the track in 3-4 weeks, but i did race his buddys 2001 cobra convert 5-speed [stock]. Not sure what they came with but heres how it went. We first went from a 40 mph roll, and by the time 90 came along he had me by 2-3 car lengths...ekkkk. Then we went from a dead stop, i got the jump beacuse he had trouble getting traction, i held a car length on him all the way to 80 then we had to shut down. We ended up going again from a stop i got him out of the hole again, we shut down around 60-65 and i had him by 1-2. His car did seem like it had more torque than mine beacuse it would kick the car sideways in second, and spin alittle in third.

His car is a solid 320hp and your run sounds about right. Your car makes peak power right off of idle so you should kill him out of the hole. Those DOHC 4.6 motors scream and make their power on the east side of the tach. They are basically the exact opposite of a TPI motor. No power down low and tons up top. Plus, the IRS is more difficult to launch and the vert adds some weight. Good runs.

you should take him. my buddy has a 04 gt, 5speed, CAI, offroad h-pipe and a flowmaster exhaust. i raced him from a stop and beat him by a car at 100 when we let out, then from a 45 roll pulled him again by 1/2 a car, he ran a best 14.6 at 97. (this just might be cause hes a terrible driver)

you know whats strange is that my buddy had a stock 02 mustang gt, and it really wasnt very quick but you could chirp the tires going into fourth gear lol. At the time i believe he was running 14.2's at 97.
