Stock for stock with the same driver's the 92 will be a bit faster provided ALL things are the same.
Yes, you could get a L98 w/ttops in 87.

It should come down to a driver's race.
As far as T-tops for the L98 (Firebird) - You could not order them from the factory in 1987. I only know because I ordered my Formula 350 and T-tops were not an option with the L98. The dealer told me the reason was that T-tops reduced the rigidness of the body and in combination with the L98 motor torque, it could cause issues/warranty claims. With that said, the dealer had an aftermarket installer that would beef up the chasis and install them as a dealer option. I never went that route, but the dealer had several customers that did. I believed this changed for firebird in 1988. And oddly enough, I believe you could order T-tops on the camaro with the L98 in 1987. Very strange if true considering that both the Firebird and Camaro were produced in the same factories.

It's not a very clean cut answer. These are not new vehicles. I'd give the race to who ever has the better maintained engine. If both are maintained well, then I'd give it to the SD L98 of course.

well since the L98 in the Camaro in 87 was rated at 225hp and 330 tq and ran a best of high 14's stock, while the 92 had 245hp and 345tq and ran a best of low 14's stock, the 92 is going to be faster... unless it's mechanicals aren't up to snuff.
