so yesterday i was driving home with my friend, and i'm going about 60ish in a 35. We pass a cop, that was going the other way, and we didnt think they could do any thing so we keep going. He must of pulled a u-turn because he pulled up behind us at a red light. we instantly know we are screwed big time, he waits for the light to turn and then flips on his lights but i got out of it because it turns out he knows my dad. But back to the original question, can they run radar while driving?

 

yes. they were using it while on a ride along a while back. Definetely didn't know about it either until I saw it for the first time.

 

I know your from virginia but in Pennslyvania they have to sitting still to use radar and in ohio they can be moving.

Yes radar works in either direction - moving or sitting still.

where i live. i think they can shoot backwards. dont ask why.
but i know they work while moving.
but where i live its legal to have cop finders. the last time i check it was.

 

I know radar works either way. Just in Pa the cop has to be stationary to use it and in ohio the cop can be mobile and give you a ticket.

 

I learned cops can radar while moving the hard way. Doubt any of you know of the Natchez Trace, but anyways it is owned and patrolled by the federal government. I was doing 80 in a 50 on it while passing a park ranger and the guy immediately flashed his lights, slammed the brakes, turned around, and pulled me over. He said he clocked me at 68, which was probably after I tapped the brakes as I made out his car coming in my direction. To my surprise the guy let me go. A friend of mine got a ticket for 3 over on it.

 

yup. radar detector confirms that a cops in Georgia and South Carolina can have radar stationary or mobile. The tool that they must be stationary for is laser. laser doesn't work while mobile and you can only be clocked from the front...

 

The cops can also pull this fancy little trick they just did on me, they an pull you over and say they had a "line of people speeding" and clocked them all doing X ammount of speed and give you a ticket. You can ask to see the gun, you can do whatever you want bottom line is either go to court and fight it *and lose most of the time* or just pay the Fing thing and be super extra careful for the next while. It really comes down to your word against theirs.

 

I don't know about where you live, but if you go to court in FL you can win most of the time. With the current budget crunch, the majority (per state trouper that is a neighbor of my parents, it is about 85%) of radar guns in FL are not calibrated as often as required which invalidates any number that the radar says.

 

Josh, what part of va are you in? You should know VA cops are ruthless..

 

i live in roanoke virginia, and i've never had a problem with the county cops, its always the city cops that are the dicks

meh, i know a guy with a '67 stang with a 408 in it...guy does crazy speeds..has been pulled over 31 times now....with 4 tickets....and one was for a broken taillight in his celica

me? i got pulled over for going 3 over...but didn't even get pulled over when i passed a cop once (two cars goin about 7 under the limit so i floored it and went around ...was probally doing 10 over by the time i was beside the cop..was like "oh ****" (couldn't tell it was a cop till i was goin around)

 

OHIO GUY HERE: Screw them moving and stationary...what about when they have all their lights off at night and radar you, pull you over, and give you a ticket, even though by law they are NOT allowed to sit without markers on AT LEAST....but how you going to argue the fact that you shouldnt have been speeding anyway, so BOOM they got you....

But yeah me and a buddy were cruising through broadway in cleveland to make our way downtown. Well we were going (what cop said) 44 in a 35. Well the funny part was the fact that the cop came OVER a hill and caught us....so radar even works up and over hills. So watch yourselves...even if you cant see them.

Couldnt fight it, we were the only car within 100ft of him (in a t-bone fashion), so it wasnt like he mistakenly caught the wrong car...haha...that and it is a 2001 Police Interceptor with 5% tint and flowmasters...so that didnt help either..

if you wanna fight it, go to court, ask them to show paperwork for when the officer was certifed to use radar and certifacation on when the radar was last calberated.....other than that .... good luck, also if the cop dont show up for court that a FTA and you are not guilty as there is no one to repersent the state there

 

Radar works in a moving cop car. Just as well as it does in a stationary one.

Radar tends to follow the curve of the terrain, so, it works over hills as well.

However, in order to be accurate, the radar gun must be with a relatively narrow arc either directly in front of, or behind, in order to give an accurate speed reading. Approaching from the side, it will not work at all, so, the cop saying he clocked you "T-Bone" fashion, was lying. Radar will not work that way.

 

If they gave me a ticket i would have gone to court and hoped to god the officer didnt show up, because 25 over would screw me

 

haha same here, but the cops to me are just jerks all around, they always hang out at bramiton, i work at tb, so they always are there w8n for me to get off, i have to take the back roads just so i dont meet them, believe it or not i beat 2 of the new chargers, thats when they had the v6 in em, i belive they are the v8 magums now, so i wouldnt try it.

and back to topic, i got cought doing 85 ina 35 on grashmill, racing and the cop was facing the other way, got me and somehow cought up to me


and those radors that are active while moving serioulsy have long lnog range, got cought do 65 in 35 on electric, funny thing was the cop was copmeing towards me, 2 miles down the road, he stopped and w8d b4 i got there, said he got me doing 65 2 miles back...
