if u are not certain how long u will keep it, just do the up keep and make it nice and enjoyable to cruise in. if u want to go real fast then yea get a motor swap, and be prepared to spend a good chunk of money.if u were anwhere near me id help ya....i say in your case just do whatever makes your car more enjoyable just dont run your mouth to other cars unless you know for certain u can take them, (not saying that you were running your mouth to the cobalt) bottom line is its your car, and probably ur only car so just take care of it and enjoy it. Most of us can do whatever the hell we want to our cars cause we have others for the daily drivers or at least backup....

Ya, it beat the 05, but I haven't raced our 07 SS.

Also, a stock 5 speed Cobalt will beat a stock Auto Cobalt all day long, as long as the driver can shift. Put a higher stall converter into the Auto and the auto now has the advantage.

I'd put a cam, headers, carb intake with a TBI adapter, full 3" exhaust, 2800-3200 stall, 3.73 gears, open element air cleaner with K&N Filter and cover, and call it a day.
That should put you easily into the mid 14's.
We did a similar setup on my friends 91 TBI 305: LT1 cam, headers, carb intake with adapter, 3" exhaust, 3.42 gears, K&N filters, and ran a 14.7 with it.

You need to chill lol. I was exactly like you at ur age when i had my 305. trust me most 305's with bolt ons are very slow. Mine ran a 15.1 at 92 mph, and was dead even with a stock cobalt ss the 171 hp version. And i had much more work done to mine then you have to yours...not trying to hate on you just take a chill pill.

Oh man that is terrible. I took one by a few car lengths about a month ago. I could hear him winging it out, I chuckled and let off the throttle once I was way out in front of him from a stoplight. You would be amazed what a difference headers make!
